Carriers from the Gulf region have announced plans to notably increase their operations to Belgrade as a result of growing demand, which will coincide with the upcoming suspension of Air Serbia's Abu Dhabi service. Flydubai plans to increase capacity by 75% on its Belgrade flights, while Qatar Airways is upgrading its equipment and considering introducing an extra three weekly services to the Serbian capital. In a statement, Flydubai said it is adding an additional three weekly flights. for a total of seven, starting this winter season, on October 29. "The additional flights will also allow passengers from Serbia better connectivity to a range of destinations onwards from Dubai. Apart from improving connections to destinations popular with Serbian travellers, such as the Maldives, Colombo and Kathmandu, passengers will also have on offer a new and attractive Flydubai destination - Kilimanjaro".
Last week Emirates said it was looking to work more closely with Flydubai and replicate the cooperation it has with the hybrid carrier on its Belgrade service. Emirates President, Tim Clark, said at the Paris Air Show, "We move around 1.200 passengers a day across the two airlines. For example, they fly to places like Belgrade and there’s quite a lot of people from Australia, of Serbian ancestry going into Serbia. Those passengers fly into Dubai from Australia on Emirates, then transfer on to Flydubai". He added, "Sheikh Mohammed [Chairman of both Emirates and Flydubai] wants this [cooperation] to happen, and when you get that ‘push’ from the shareholder, you get things done”.
Meanwhile, Qatar Airways will add a further three weekly flights, for a total of seven, to the Serbian capital starting October 1, as previously announced. It will deploy its Airbus A320P jet on the route, which features 132 seats, with an improved premium product boasting twelve seats in business class with 180 degree lie-flat capability. However, starting July 1. the airline will up capacity on its existing four weekly service from the A320 to its 182-seat Airbus A321 aircraft, with the change already visible in booking systems. Furthermore, according to the "Aviatica" portal, the Qatari carrier is considering adding an additional three weekly services to Belgrade, on top of the already planned increase, which would result in a total of ten weekly flights.

ReplyDeleteThey are the cheapest option to those places. Last month there was an offer from Belgrade to Colombo with Fly dubai for just 380 euros (return ticket).

DeleteThe bilateral is based on reciprocity. Since JU no longer has scheduled flights to Turkey, Turkish carriers are free to add as many flights as they wish to.

DeleteAir traffic between Serbia and Turkey is regulated by an air service agreement.
TK was forced to reduce flights back then because JU just entered the Turkish market. Given how incompetent JU is they left the maket leaving the Turks to add flights as they please. So no, JU has no say.
If JU wants to return, the Turks must grant them 28 weekly frequencies as that's what their airlines have in Serbia.
I think it's great to have competition, it breeds success. Protectionism is never for the benefit of the consumer.
It seems that FZ is also increasing frequencies to Skopje to three per week instead of two.
ReplyDeleteVisited Qatar last year. Number of our Bosnian and Serbian citizens living there increasing month by month (mainly in tourism sector). Not a big purchasing power but surely visiting ex-yu at least twice a year.

The thing with Serbs in Qatar is that they don't fly directly on QR because a return fare is close to €700. In stead they connect in Istanbul for half the price.

QR recently put some really cheap fares out for BEG passengers. 361 EUR to Beijing, 376 to Guangzhou, 399 to Bangkok, 1039 to Sydney, 449 to Phuket and 1038 to Melbourne all return fares. But they are promotional and for a limited time only.

DeleteSerbs like Slovenes love to travel meaning the outbound market is quite strong. That's why flydubai feels confident to add three more flights and QR can send the A321.
Once the economy gets better I am sure there is going to be room for a widebody, either by QR, EY or EK.
That's also why QR things on introducing LJU and why Emirates declared Serbia and Slovenia being their best selling markets. To tell you the truth, they have no idea what are they gonna do with ZAG in winter but they're loosing money heavily on the route.

DeleteLike I wrote above. Emirates went for Zagreb because they will have a better chance at filling up the front end of the plane with Asian originating tourist. They have a lot of capacity top Zagreb and if the winter months do not perform as well as they expect, they will simply reduce capacity. No big deal.

Pomirite se s tim da je Zagreb itekako najlogičniji mogući izbor.
Osim Hrvata i Slovenaca koji vole letjeti jednako kao i Srbi prevagnuo je turistički karakter Hrvatske i ogromna dijaspora down under.
Možda bi i lejeli na BEG kad bi Srbija imala barem 10 milijuna turista. Al eto - nema.

DeleteНема то везе са туризмом. И сами смо видели да летови нису тако пуни. Већ неколико пута се десило да је лет стигао са мање од 100 путника у економској класи, и то пошто су Емирати масовно дампинговали цене карата.
Ако се погледа број летова авио-компанија које нуде преседања ка истоку, очигледно је да Београд има већу потражњу.
Број туриста је велики али мени се чини да они не лете у сам Загреб већ га посећују као успутно одредиште. Да нису у праву данас би било неколико директних летова из Азије. Једино што имате је глорификовани чартер из Сеула.
Нема ту љубоморе већ само реалности која изгледа и даље није дошла до вас.
А погледај мало доле број недељних учесталости ка Азији ове зиме. Како то да Београд без својих 10 милијуна туриста успева да одржи 7 дневних летова ка азијском континенту?

DeleteDa je kojim slučajem BEG dobio Emirates, slušali bismo o tome dovijeka, kao i opravdavanja zašto je tako. Vidim da se i dalje ignorira činjenica da je EK tek započeo sa letovima za ZAG i da je 100% pun, opet bi se našao neki razlog zašto je to loša ideja. Prvo, BEG je jedan od dva međunarodna maerodroma u Srbiji, dok je ZAG jedan od njih 8. Usto, RH je skoro duplo manja po površini i stanovništu od jedne RS.
I još izjaviš da nema veze sa turizmom. Nego sa čime? Sa stotinama tisuća gaserbajtera u Aziji i Australiji koji pune letove inače?

Znam da je podosta puta let bio rasprodan. Ta činjenica je sama po sebi nevjerojatna jer se radi o prvih mjesec dana leta!
Sjećam se kad je Qatar počeo letjeti. Ono preko BUD. Trebalo je dobrih godinu dana da se uhodaju, često su letjeli s nekoliko putnika do BUD.Tek zadnjih godinu dvije su krcati. Koga god pitam s kim su letjeli iz Australije - odgovor je Qatar.
Radi se jednostavno o činjenici da je odabir Zagreba odabir tržišta veće platežne moći. Plus "vruće" turističke destinacije. Sorry.
Da nije tako ostali bi na fly Dubai.

DeleteХрватска има 8 аеродрома али само један има нормалан саобраћај током целе године. Остали ако пребаце 20.000 током зиме онда сви скупа славимо. Аеродром Ниш има знатно бољу будућност због разноликости авио-превозника као и због чињенице да сви они лете током целе године.
То да ли су летови били распродати ја не знам. Онај дан сте исто тако тврдили па се испоставило да је једва било 150 путника у економској класи. Дакле живи били па видели.
Као што рекох, овде се бацају којекакве бројке везано за туризам али Загреб и даље није прешао 3 милиона путника. Не оспоравам ја да их има већ кажем да им је Загреб успутна дестинација коју посећују као део веће туре. У вашу престоницу углавном стижу бусом, не зракопловом.
На крају, да је Загреб таква Мека за стране туристе, па не би Хаинан изабрао Београд иако су већ преговарали са Загребом. Шта ту би?
Поновићу још једном, да је потражња из Загреба већа од оне у Београд, зар онда ЗАГ не би требало да има више недељних летова од БЕГа? Нешто ту нема логике.
I think that generally demand out of ZAG is rather limited. Look at JU. They removed their Atr 4 times per week from ZAG so that they could launch VCE and the latter ended up being a total success with the airline where most flights are already sold out in August.

Indications are Emirates will have 100-107 000 pax on Dubai-Zagreb-Dubai route. This is 20% above expectations.
In slower months November 1st -April 1st. Emirates most likely will deploy B777 2000LR on the route offering 266 seats or nearly 16000 seats per month. @75%, 12000 pax is quite likely during slow months, condescending 16-17000 is current pax.
First class and Business class pay for the entire trip, lets not forget that.
Also Zagreb airport had decent 2016, Made after tax profit of €5.2 million, and had an turnover of €158.4 million. Financially the largest airport in the region, if not by traffic, by revenue certainly.
2017, projections are €170-175 million revenue and €7.6 million after tax profits.
Condescending the airport just made an investment of €250 million, this is indeed quite impressive result.
Croatia also registered 22% more tourist arrivals in first 5 months of the year, registering 4.5 million arrivals and 16.5 million nights. @this rate 18.5 million tourists will visit Croatia in 2017 and 20 million in 2018. Croatia earned €9.4 billion in revenue from tourism in 2016 or 18.1% of GDP. Projections for 2017 are revenue of €10.2 billion.

Actual numbers are 20% up on projections. Emirates was expecting 15000 on the route per months next year. This year they projected route to do 12000 per month.
Croatian tourist arrivals up by 22% was reported in the news, with 24% increase in overnights. Zagreb leads the way in arrivals and overnights, with almost million overnights and 640 000 arrivals in first 5 months. Projection for the rest of the year is based on that trend.
Well, let's wait and see what happens.

DeleteTunisair is bringing back its Monastir-Belgrade flights starting from tomorrow. They initially asked for two weekly flights but they changed it to one weekly after the crooks in the Serbian directorate turned them down.
