Wizz Air marks Tuzla milestone

NEWS FLASH

Budget airline Wizz Air carried its millionth passenger on flights to and from Tuzla today since launching operations to the Bosnian city in 2013. Being the only scheduled airline to serve Tuzla, the carrier helped kick-start passenger growth at the airport by inaugurating flights to the city in May 2013 and has since constantly expanded its Bosnian network. In 2015, Wizz Air established base operations in Tuzla and now has two aircraft stationed in the city. In 2016, the airline handled just over 310.000 passengers to and from Tuzla. This year, the no frills airline launched flights from Bosnia and Herzegovina's third largest city to Bratislava, Cologne, Friedrichshafen and Nuremberg. Speaking at a press conference in Tuzla, Sorina Ratz, Wizz Air's Communications Manager, said, ”Ffour years since the start of our Tuzla operations, Wizz Air is celebrating remarkable results and a new passenger record, reaching the first million carried passengers in Bosnia and Herzegovina. As the leading airline in Bosnia and Herzegovina, our investment in the country created affordable travel opportunities for our passengers and since the beginning of 2017, our traffic increased with more than 56%, compared to the same period in 2016. In 2017, we expanded our Tuzla offer to a total of sixteen services across seven countries, allocated a second aircraft and created more local jobs." She added, "We look forward to continuing our fruitful partnership with Tuzla International Airport and remain committed to bringing even more exciting opportunities that can best meet our customers’ needs, while further stimulating economic and business relations in the country”.

Tuzla Airport has registered impressive passenger growth so far this year. In May alone, the airport welcomed 47.701 travellers through its doors, an increase of 74.5% compared to the same month last year. During the first five months of 2017, Tuzla Airport handled 176.800 passengers, up 53.3%.
