NEWS FLASH

Low cost airline Eurowings has cancelled plans to launch flights between Munich and Skopje, which were to commence on October 31. Services were to run twice per week, each Tuesday and Friday. The airline has suspended ticket sales for the route. The Lufthansa subsidiary confirmed to EX-YU Aviation News it is shelving the planned flights, adding, "As the expectations regarding the economic efficiency of the route were not fulfilled, the service between Munich and Skopje is cancelled for now. Since routes are constantly being revaluated, this may change in the future". Recently, Eurowings announced it was also cancelling its planned new service between Dusseldorf and Sarajevo, which was to launch on November 2.

Doesn't Wizz Air fly to both Memmingen and Nuremberg? I think they will profit the most.

The issue is actually with the shortage of airplanes in EuroWings fleet. They were planning to get some planes from Air Berlin but that is not going as expected, thus the delay.

If that was the case, Eurowings would have said that, not that its sales were poor.

Yeah but there is a reason why SKP was chosen over some other destination.

This is an interesting development. It demonstrates that the Skopje market is low-cost, with very little interest in connecting through hubs. Wizz Air has done very well to become the main carrier there, and Eurowings pulling out will deter other legacy carriers such as KLM.

I think having 9 destinations from SKP to Germany is way too much.
