Budget airline Eurowings will significantly reduce capacity on its planned new services from Dusseldorf and Stuttgart to Mostar, which are to commence on May 16 and May 19 respectively. Instead of the planned mix of Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft, which have the capacity to seat between 156 and 174 passengers, the airline will now utilise the 76-seat Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 turboprop on both routes. Flights will be operated by the Lufthansa subsidiary LGW. As a result, flight times have been slightly modified, however, both will run twice per week, as initially planned. Late last year, Eurowings cancelled plans to introduce flights between Dusseldorf and Sarajevo following several weeks of ticket sales. The budget airline announced services to Mostar after the city won a public vote on Facebook to select the carrier's newest destinations.
Wouldn't be surprised if these end up being cancelled altogether.

ReplyDeleteDowngrad is not a matter of low demand, but of special flight procedures at Mostar airport. They planned to introduce an extra weekly rotation till airbus crews will be ready for ops at OMO
ReplyDeleteWhat is so special about OMO? The EW crews fly to INN and FNC, which are demanding..
DeleteBut they are not introducing the extra rotation and flights are listed as Q400 equipment all summer.
DeleteOMO is special because of a tricky approach...some airlines even train their crew for heavy approach on OMO like Mistral and Croatia airlines....in the early 2000's even Lufthansa used OMO as an example for tricky approach and held some training there

Hopefully flights materialise at the end. It would be shame to have these cancelled. Even with Dash is better than having them cancelled all together.
ReplyDeleteThey simply cannot afford to cancel the route which won the public vote, at least not this year. It would be a disaster for their reputation.
ReplyDeleteI understand the downgrade from DUS as EW took over all Dash planes from AB by acquiring LGW and stationed ALL of the Dash planes at DUS so EW needs to do something with their Dashes and its rather ideal imho to use them for new routes being launched. But how STR? Will they ferry them to STR 2x a week?

ReplyDeleteWell, they could double check what exactly they have typed into computer - I searched for a CPH-OMO ticket multiple times, and the price range was 1000-1750€ (and usually above 1500)
ReplyDeleteThere is enough demand, because first three flights are no longer bookable because tuey are full....the real reason for the introduction of Dash id because Eurowings doesnt have enough jet engines aircraft because they announced large number of new routes, while recieving zero new jets, because their takeover of Niki airlines failed thus leaving the without new jets....i am sure that on the peak season months Euroeings will have to deploy A319 on some flights to Mostar
