LOT Polish Airlines plans to hire 300 additional pilots for its operational bases in Warsaw and Budapest by the end of 2019. LOT is looking for captains and first officers for its Bombardier Q400 and Embraer 170/190 fleet. Candidates are being sourced from Central and Eastern Europe, with Croatia, Serbia and Slovenia among those listed. “Unlike many airlines, LOT provides new pilots with a complete training package for which they do not have to bear any additional costs", LOT's Corporate Communications Director, Adrian Kubicki, said. The airline is undergoing a rapid fleet development, with its fleet of ten Boeing 787-8/9s expected to rise to fifteen by the end of 2019. LOT’s fleet of four Boeing 737 MAX 8s will increase to twelve by the end of 2019. In July, six additional Embraer E195s will be delivered, while four E190s are expected to join the fleet by the end of the year. DeleteWhile Airbus rated pilots can pick & choose when it comes to changing employer, a few Q400 capts left for XQ, some F/Os for EK. Those still flying for OU are very happy there and I really doubt they will be tempted by LOT's offer.

ReplyDeleteI have some doubts about the whole LOT concept. The airline is still 99,9% state owned and the governement bailed it out with dubious "privatizations" of subsidies a couple of years ago. The airline was heavy loss making for many years and turned around in 2016 only. For 2017 there are still no financial data available. Fuel prices are steadily up, global economy is slowing down and political uncertainty growing. LOT may function momentarily under these circumstancies, because they have a rock-hard right wing government that backs it (new Warsaw hub project). However the whole concept is quite megalomanic and Poland is not Turkey, which is economically stronger and geographically better located. Furthermore LOT is under the watchful eye of the EU, while TK is more free to go it's own way. In essence I would not bet that the present LOT strategy will survive the next five years, while I think that TK will become even stronger and this might change a lot of the currect airline architecture in s/eastern Europe.
