Lufthansa to boost Belgrade operations

NEWS FLASH

Lufthansa will launch an extra seven weekly flights to Belgrade next summer season, which begins on March 31, 2019. The German carrier will introduce an additional daily service between Munich and the Serbian capital for a total of three daily flights. The new rotation will operate in the evening, departing Munich at 21.05 and arriving at 22.35, while the return service is scheduled to leave Belgrade at 06.30 and touch down in the Bavarian capital at 08.00. Lufthansa faces no competition on the route. The Munich service complements the airline's double daily flights from Frankfurt to Belgrade. Recently, Lufthansa subsidiary Swiss International Air Lines announced it would add an additional seven weekly flights from Zurich to Belgrade next summer.

Nice :) so in addition to the Frankfurt flights which stays the night in BEG, we will not have MUC as well with a good morning departure

Let's see if they will able to fill them. Germany is way too saturated from BEG.

This is about connecting traffic and there seems to be demand for additional frequencies. Good news!

Why wouldn't they be able to fill the flights? MUC-BEG is growing quite nicely this year and this winter most flights are operated by the A319.

Two days ago a friend of mine flew on the 13.10 to MUC (A319) and it was packed to the last seat.

      Fantastic news!
Absolutely the best transfer airport and pleasant place to spend even several hours.
This will bring many new transfer opportunities. I am super happy!

The thing is MUC is far cheaper for LH to operate and makes absolutely sense to shift flight- that is increase capacity on the shorter leg at the cheaper airport wher many transfer anyways.

It also has a better arrival time than FRA which lands at 23.50. This will be much more popular.

I was hoping to see some new flights to FRA :-(
It has not been changed for quite a long time - 2 daily and that's it.

Yes, me too but I don't think it will happen but they could use a morning departure from Frankfurt.

Whenever I was flying FRA-BEG-FRA LH was full to the last seat. Maybe they should consider to open one more daily flight here as well.

That is bad news for JU.

Exactly. Ju does not fly to MUC, but hey why wouldn't it be bad news for them?

    2. Anonymous13:00

because ther is mor capacity to add connex traffic say to AMS, JFK, TXL etc, which in turn hurts JU!

By that logic this also hurts Wizz Air, easyJet, Transavia, Austrian Airlines... or are they somehow immune to competition?

I think they are not adding more flights because of the dispute they have with Fraport.

Nice. I hope LOT and Tarom also increase flights next summer. Maybe Alitalia as well? They are sending a mix of 320/321 to Belgrade this month.

This service is a re-introduction, with same timings. I was surprised when they cancelled it. It used to operate for many years.

I remember it was introduced the moment Alitalia closed its MXP hub. AZ operated three daily flights on the E75. When the flights were cut LH increased MUC to triple daily.

AZ was also flying with ERJ145 quote often MXP-BEG

Cancelling MXP hub was such a mistake. Maybe they should move everything to Milano Linate but not close the base.

They had actuallly very good prices and connecting times from MXP to BEG. I enjoyed collecting their miles, but later on they rejected silver members to enter lounges and closed MXP as connecting hub.

Ever since I have not flown with AZ

Good, nice to see more choices when flying out of BEG. This night flight was badly needed.

  9. Hope LH would work on it's service quality as well and make better schedule on connection for US flights as I habe to run trough entire FRA airport every time I fly to USA
There is only 1 hour layover in FRA so if flight from BGD is late for soe reason, you are in a big problem...

Depends on the US destination, I guess you are flying to Texas or California as they are usually the first to leave.
