NEWS FLASH

Austrian Airlines will be introducing additional flights between Vienna and Belgrade next summer season with the carrier to maintain the route twenty times per week. The airline will operate three flights per day throughout most of the week next summer. In a statement to EX-YU Aviation News, the carrier said, "The first service to be provided by Austrian Airlines to Belgrade took place on April 6, 1959. During the last decades, Austrian Airlines has been a reliable partner for business and leisure travellers and has continually increased its service between Belgrade and the Austrian hub in Vienna. We will serve up to three flights a day or twenty flights per week between Belgrade and Vienna next year. Therefore, Austrian Airlines offers the ideal connection between Serbia and the dense Austrian network. Instead of responding to the strong competition, which is strong in every market, we rather focus on our USPs (Unique Selling Proposition): One is our hub in Vienna. We offer flights from Vienna onwards to around 130 destinations worldwide".

Overall, the Austrian and Serbian capitals will be linked with 34 weekly flights next summer season, with Air Serbia to maintain double daily operations.

Nice! Their best selling point for north American flights is that their morning flight out of BEG isn't that early like LH (06.30).

They are doing well in BEG, last five days they sent 2x A320, 1 A319 and 2 E95 on the morning flight.

I think LH is afraid of losing connecting passengers to LO.

What about other airlines that offer connections to JFK? This isnt bad news for them? Also OS flies its ancient B763 which is inferior to JU A332.

I am not aware of any other airline flying direct from BEG to JFK.
So JU is the primary target of this increased connectivity to OS transatlantic network.
Plus the OS 767 with its 2-32 configuration in economy is not bad at all. Nor is their catering.
And most importantly OS is on Star Alliance with all the benefits that it brings.

I flew on OS' B763 and it was probably one of the worst flights I've been on. Do you know their legroom is 30' while JU's A332 is 32'? Those extra two inches come in handy when you have to sit there for 9 hours.

Also, JU offers non-stop flights from BEG which means that they have a competitive advantage over their competition. OS will offer one extra connection to JFK compared to JU which isn't much.

The only clear advantage OS has over JU is their catering and IFE. Other than that, JU is ahead... especially when it comes to crew.

So I agree with the above Anon. This will mostly impact those who, just like OS, aim at attracting transfer passengers. The extra daily flight to Paris on Air France is much greater threat to LH Group than two extra weekly flights to VIE are a threat to JU.

I have a feeling anything on here is inferior to JU! Haha

I prefer OS 763 a million time over the 777s. They have extra slim seats so u do not feel any less legroom in economy.
The whole interior is brand new and you have a feeling the plane is only 2 years old or less. Such biased comments on here. You've got to wonder.

And they fly 13x a week to NYC / combination of JFK and EWR.

What are you going on about? The cabin in the 777 and the 767 is identical on OS planes.

I think that for many anything and everything is superior to JU, even when it isn't.

What are you going on about Anon 19:44? OS 767s have a 2-3-2 configuration in Economy class. 777s are 3-3-3.

'They have extra slim seats so u do not feel any less legroom in economy. '

He was referring to this comment, both planes have the same seat type so the legroom is the same. He didn't refer to the configuration.

Well the cabin of the 777 is MUCH wider than that of the 767 so the whole feeling is roomier. Also don't forget that legroom on both planes is disastrous.

LH Group is becoming increasingly dominant in Belgrade.

    MUC 21x
    ZRH 21x
    VIE 20x
    FRA 14x

76 weekly flights!! It must be their top destination in ex-YU, maybe even in the Balkans?

    1. Anonymous11:38

In SOF a bit less, but maybe you are right:

      VIE: 34x - OS
      MUC 21x - LH
      FRA 19x - LH

      Total: 74

LX used to fly daily but this line was never successful given extremely low diaspora in CH and preferred transfers: MUC and VIE

LH group is very competitive from BEG as they have 10+ daily flights to their hubs. You can book very interesting multi-city itineraries via FRA, MUC, ZRH or VIE at great prices. This summer I flew BEG-VIE-CDG, NCE-MUC-BEG for 150 EUR total in peak season.

JU needs to announce many more destinations/frequencies for that to actually happen.
It would also need to increase its fleet to do that.

I took OS from BEG to YYZ and was not impressed at all 767 are soo old , seats and legroom super uncomfortable. Crew has horrible uniforms and not nice at all. No idea who would use them to JFK over non stop flight with AS from BEG? AS is definitely 10x better .
