NEWS FLASH

Air Serbia has unveiled a special "Serbia Creates" livery on its flagship Airbus A330-200 aircraft, which returned from Abu Dhabi today following a month of maintenance. "Serbia Creates is a new way of positioning Serbia locally and internationally in ways that affirm the country’s contemporary characteristics of creativity, innovation, and originality. Serbia Creates frames authenticity, ingenuity, excellence, trust, and openness as core elements of the Serbian character. It profiles Serbia as a great place to visit, invest, study or do business, and promotes Serbian people as creative, innovative, reliable and resilient partners", the office of the Serbian Prime Minister, Ana Brnabić, said. It marks the first special scheme to be applied to one of Air Serbia's aircraft. The Airbus A330-200, registered YU-ARA, is set to return to scheduled service tomorrow on flight JU500 between Belgrade and New York. It was replaced by an Etihad Airways A330-200 over the past month.

Agreed. It makes it difficult to read the "Serbia Creates" part. The should have left that whole part blue with white text.

So what is the use of advertising Serbia on a plane that flies to one airport?

This looks pathetic. I have nothing against special liveries and promotions, but this is so badly designed that one doesn’t even know what’s the message. On top of it Its hardly possible to even see the word “Serbia” due to horrible choice of colors and font design.

Every new/special livery is polarizing, people either hate it or love it. LH new "yellowless" livery, AA grey livery, AC going from toothpaste to white... they all had extreme love or hate responses. Just live with it, it's temporary.

To be honest, I kinda like it. My only remark is too light blue so "Serbia Creates" is not that visible. Otherwise it's a nice change. It would defo draw my attention if I would see the plane somewhere.

If you put a pile of poop in livery design it would also draw your attention but it doesn't make it pretty.

When you want to create a clever design showing how creative your country is you do that with a great visual design. You don't say how creative you are with words, you show it with a clever design. That's how you show how creative your country/people are.

This will become the butt of jokes.

Clever design in itself is not the goal. Doritos ads are as ugly and dumb as possible but they get people to talk and eventually buy. Judging by the number of comments about just one aircraft tail, they at least managed to get people talking.

Doritos, as snack food compete with hundreds of other chips, not to mention other junk food. They make an add today and in a few days it is forgotten, replaced by a new add, plus hundreds of other daily bombardments of junk food adds. And no matter how many junk food adds I see, I do not eat junk food.

Air Serbia could have been creative with this PR stunt, and used as picture of say Nikola Tesla, the epitome of innovation, with some catchy caption. Or a picture of some science innovation from Serbia, landscape etc.

They tried to be creative and in the end I fear it will be a disaster, a laughing stock of an add of what not to do. Every single country could say that these words apply to them as well. Nothing unique to Serbia here. And that's what this PR effort should have been about.

Charlie, every single country, really? You have to agree with me that at least 'Fun Experience' part does not apply to North Korea and a few more spots. As for your fear PR will be a disaster, I say: fear not. As Michael Jordan once said: Limits, like fear, are often an illusion!

Did I really have to write not, N. Korea, Afghanistan, Syria, and a few others?
But even in those countries you will find at least a few extremely creative people, although they rarely are given the chance to develop.

My fear is more of the waste of (taxpayer) money being spent on this fiasco. When you don't know how to do a job properly you hire someone who knows how to do it.

I know my limit is that I will never be able to dunk a basketball. I fear that this is not an illusion.

      Cheers mate ;-)

My fear is more of the waste of (taxpayer) money being spent on this fiasco - I thought for a moment you are talking about national emergency to get funding for the border wall.

Tail paint job should be in the $10k-$30k range. Could that livery create enough buzz to offset that investment?

Bljak. I've followed the Yugoslav airline scene since 1980. This is what happens when airline executives are disconnected from the airline industry. The livery can also be interpreted as Serbia's most talented are emigrating.

Contra-productive since the „design“ is not creative, modern, stylish or whatsoever people will not understand the „logic“ of this inscription- simply ridiculous. If they wanted really to promote late or contemporary famous Serbs they could use their picture with a sticker (name and „famous for....“) beside it.

Reminder: same ideas (champions, film, art, music, talent) + taxpayer money created this disaster. Might have been funny for domestic audiences but didn't financially help the airline. This would provoke negative response about the airline and the country if presented to global audiences:

This is borring and makes no sense. Its ZERO innovative, its ugly, its stupid because it wasn´t even smart enough to cancel the two blues variant so makes "Serbia creates" more visible, its unoriginal because we already seen special liveries with texts but actually not as simplistic and disconnected as this one. It actually shows that the atempt is failed. Inovation with zero inovation. I am not going to the populist speach of "Oh my God, how much did this cost?" that silly, this was clearly a too much cheap and totally uninspired atempt of making a special livery. I really hope it lasts the shortest possible.
