NEWS FLASH

Croatia Airlines is visually refreshing its aircraft by slightly tweaking its livery, introduced fifteen years ago. As part of its new design, the letters "Croatia" on the fuselage will now be larger, making them more noticeable and recognisable. The Croatian checkerboard symbol, featured on the tail, will now be further extended down the body of the aircraft, while the blue underbelly becomes white. In a statement to EX-YU Aviation News, Croatia Airlines said, "This year we plan to refresh three Dash 8-Q400 and three Airbus A319 aircraft. The first one, a Dash 8 (registered 9A-CQA), has been painted, and the next five will be done by the end of March 2019. The second stage of the visual exterior modification is planned for next year when the refreshment will be made to the remaining members of the fleet: three Q400s, one A319 and two A320s". The livery, introduced in 2004, was created by Ivanka Ivanković, who serves as the company's Head of Corporate Design.

The livery modification is a cost cutting measure. They will reduce the weight of the plane by removing the blue belly.

You need more layers of paint for colours, ergo more weight.

What is with Croatia and the design? They have one of the most recognizable national symbols, great designers and we see changes like this... There was that car number-plate debacle few years ago as well. Only the Madam President always manages to steal the show, design-wise.

The car number plate was a total failure. The proposed solution was fresh, nice and modern. But then the call of the wild prevailed, and the old and ugly check board (same as on the flag) stayed and will stay for ever and ever. The funny thing was that if you liked the modern solution you weren't a Croat. Balkanska posla.
Same would happen if someone proposed a different idea for OU. He would be called "izdajica naroda". Sad.

The extended checkerboard looks great in my opinion, so do the larger letters of the brand name.

But the removal of the blue belly and to now have the whole plane in plain white is damn boring to look at.

"undercarriage" is a landing gear, wheels. It was the belly of the plane that was blue. You're welcome.

Fortunately enough, OU remains one of the best, conservative-classical legacies in Central and Eastern Europe.
The new facelift is elegant and represents the true Croatia.

Sorry but there's absolutely no change in chequerboard at all, it was extended down the fuselage already in original design if you haven't noticed and now it's the same as before. Also, barely notice a change with slightly larger letters if they aren't in the billboard style but I guess it's hard to do that with thin Helvetica typeface, just look at the Star Alliance livery. The only true difference is the loss of the blue belly.

Of course, PR department's job is to present it as a major brand upgrade but then again weavers also said the emperor has new clothes.
