NEWS FLASH

Croatia Airlines has today started charging economy class passengers for advanced seat selection on several of its routes up to 48 hours before departure. Economy class passengers flying to and from Zagreb to Copenhagen, Dublin, Helsinki, Oslo, Stockholm and St Petersburg, as well as from Split to Copenhagen, will be charged fifteen euros if, upon booking, they choose to sit in an exit row seat, twelve euros for priority zone seating (first two economy class rows), and ten euros for all other seats. Senator and HON Circle members of the Miles & More frequent flyer programme are exempt from the charges. Passengers who do not select a seat will be automatically assigned one at check-in free of charge. Advanced seat selection fees are becoming increasingly common across the industry. Within the former Yugoslavia, Air Serbia charges their economy class passengers for early seat selection on all flights.

Not really, list of things to sell is growing thin.

They haven't sold anything in a while. Obviously they are going down the path of introducing ancillary services.

Didn't they announce a loss for this year? I don't think anyone believes their finances have stabilized.

I'm surprised Adria does not charge early seat selection. Also why did OU introduce this on just a few routes? Why not the entire network?

Probably since they need all the cash they can get.

Nothing wrong with BoB, on my opinion. Airlines are created to make money, not charity.
Besides, this is becoming quite normal. You want to fly like a king, you have to pay for all the perks.
Preferred seat, meal, leg room, Wi-fi, bags, priority boarding and so on.
This will also allow OU to be more competitive with the rest of airlines, especially on busier routes.

Za 50 do 100 jura po letu uvoditi ovo nema smisla bolje da to bude privilegija onih sa MM karticom po klasama da mogu uz malu doplatu da imaju takva mesta kada ne lete u biznis klasi do 24 casa pred let.

Seat selecttion fee is ok, but only until 24 hours before departure. After that time it should be free (as LH is doing). Simply, who wanted to reserve the seat for himself has plenty of time and who doesn't want it should get alternative to choose FOC between remaining seats available.

And it is free, 48 hours before the flight. So, whatever is available to choose from after that period, you can select for free.

Sorry, I didn't know it was free 48 hours before departure.

Unfortunately with Air Serbia it is not the case

Actually, it is free with Air Serbia, as well. At the time of check in, wether it is online or at the check in desk (so within 48h), if you do not want to pay for a specific seat, you will be assigned a free seat randomly chosen by the system. You do not have to pay. I see Croatia has adopted the same M.O.

When it comes to Croatia Airlines, within those 48 hours before the flight, you can choose the seat for free, not that you will be given one random one by the system.

Personally I think that chargibg for seat selection is a money grab . Sometimes you have to buy seats in advance especially if you are travelling with a minor. You want to be next to the minor. I have known people who travelled where they waited not to be charged and were sitting in different areas of the aircraft. Problem was they had children with them. Where the big money can be made is in excess baggage. Charge more for excess.

At Emirates check in desk (very far from Zagreb, three hours before take off, but lots of ppl already checked): Good evening sir, show me your ticket....thanks.....do you prefer window or aisle seat?

Nothing was charged yet the flight was full.

That check in experience can also be charged, if you do not want online check in....
