NEWS FLASH

Passengers arriving at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport as of this Wednesday until August 18 will be poured a free cup of draft beer. Travellers will get the opportunity to sample local beers free of charge at the baggage claim area as part of efforts to promote the upcoming seventeenth annual Belgrade Beer Fest. The campaign is part of the Serbia Creates platform, which the national flag carrier has also signed up to. According to Eurostat, the European Union imports 57 million litres of the beverage from Serbia each year, making it the second largest exporter of beer to the bloc behind Mexico.

So the Serbian beer isn't sold in Europe as such but rebranded/repackaged into other beers?

98% of Serbian breweries are owned by large foreign beer companies like Heineiken who sell Serbian made beer under their own brand.

I noticed that a relatively small local brewery called Gvint will be present at the festival. They have really good beer so hopefully this helps them promote their brand.

Gvint is actually quite terrible as far as craft beer goes :P But there will be other heavyweights such as Dogma and Tron which are world-class.

Most Serbian craft beers are quite good. I will point out Black Turtle lager, Tron red IPA, Krugher and brent red....Do not mess it with industrial supermarket beers made from corn starch

Plus MUC and FRA have many pubs and bar all around. Everyone loves beer and no one dares launch a Crusade against it.

Qatar bans alcohol on its soil, but their national airline will give you more booze on its flights than most Western airlines.
