NEWS FLASH

Air Serbia has discontinued seasonal flights between Belgrade and Hamburg. The service, which was initially launched on a year-round basis in 2016, was maintained only during the peak summer months from 2017 onwards. Flights will not be resumed by the airline in 2020. The service ran four times per week last year. On Monday, Air Serbia announced the launch of six new routes from Belgrade and an increase in frequencies across its existing network.

Not a big surprise. Load factor wasn't that good the last years.

Not bad especially since most are locals who pay higher fares than transfers.

If they are smart they could fly to HAJ during night wave, airport is open 24/7 and has a larger catchment area to all four points of the compass.

Did AS cannibalize its own route by adding INI HAJ?

Will they cancel more routes to make all the new routes possible?

No. This route has not been on sale since last year. All other routes are on sale.

I am extremely surprised that FKB being a German village gets more flights and a financial and rich city like HAM receives little or no traffic.
Maybe it was too expensive for them as an airport? You know that W6 is stopping all flights to FRA because of the discounts expiry.
Why didn't JU ask for another discount from the Bürgerschaft of Hamburg? It is a region with a GDP per capita of nearly 68000€!

FKB also covers eastern France, quite big catchment area. HAM is quite unfortunate as an airport and many have left it starting with easyJet.

I don't understand...OK, maybe revenue from this route was not satisfactory enough (can AS already start canceling low-yield routes like other bigger companies do?) but I took this flight last year four times and each time it was FULL until last seat
I remember first time going HAM-BEG in the evening...check in area in HAM almost a ghost-town...and then a huge line of people and I think "haha, imagine starting holidays like this" (I was thinking it was some LCC to Fuerteventura...). TO my surprise, it was check-in for AS!
Total shock! And now this? Cancellation? Too bad...
Lets hope they will utilize the bird somewhere better

Unfortunately those loads you had were not the norm, most of the times it was around 60%

Tarom just announced the suspension of Hamburg as well - in addition to cutting ARN. Pretty bad period of that region as Wizz Air also cut OTP-HAJ.

With RO also suspending HAM and W6 suspending HAJ sounds like it is good news for LH and OS.

W6 is also suspending FRA this summer. They are suspending it but launching ORY and LED, they are also stepping hard on LGW tarmac.
JU is again sleeping and not resuming flights to Gatwick - they can be transfer with VS and also second option from Serbs living in UK having to pay a fortune to visit their families during the holiday season.

Lets remember what happened in 2012:

      https://www.exyuaviation.com/2012/01/jat-goes-seasonal-to-gatwick.html

      The article mentions important info:

"A return ticket with taxes included from Belgrade to both London Gatwick and Heathrow will set passengers back 175 Euros."

Those were the real days when prices were reasonable and people had more choice.

      "JU is again sleeping"

This surely can't be said for Air Serbia especially for their activities in 2019 and 2020. The other things is that their latest actions did not match to someone's needs, but saying that JU is sleeping is not serious.

During the holiday seasons the tickets are always more expensive than in February, no matter if you like it or not. Using connecting flights via MUC, FRA, ZRH, VIE sometimes could be helpful but in that case it takes bit longer and not that comfortable like direct flight.

Simply put the UK is not a key market for JU since it's not that big, there is a visa regime and flights don't fit for connections.
