NEWS FLASH

Tuzla Airport has seen its passenger numbers decline in January as it handled 35.188 travellers, down 3.2%. The airport experienced several days of adverse weather conditions during the month, which resulted in the diversion of some flights. Tuzla Airport is currently in talks with FlyBosnia over the introduction of services to London.

Shame, the airport had such a nice run but for a few months it has been stagnating. They must work on attracting new carriers.

Tuzla is losing steam after a few fantastic years. They need to find a way to return to growth. What happened to the 3rd A320 there?

Interesting that INI handled more passengers than TZL in January. I think that's a first, no?

If they keep having 35000 passengers per month in next 10 years that would be fantastic. It would mean stabile service for people of Tuzla.
Obsession with indefinite growth is insane.

Why is it insane? Businesses should always aim for growth, aim for the moon and even if you miss you'll land among the stars.

    'weather conditions'

is it a generall problem in the dalmatia/central balkan region that planes has to divert to other places because of fog? (i know the area has a lot of mounatins and hills) i know SJJ experiences this from time to time, but i havent heard this be a problem in BEG or ZAG....

a bit sad for B&H airports and aviation if i might say so :/

It depends on the category of the runway and pilot training. Last month there were diveraions in Belgrade due to fog but mostly by ATR planes which do not have the ability to use CATIIIb runway system which allows the pilot to land using autopilot.

Tuzla Airport has the most basic runway and doesn't even have approach lights, something Wizz Air is very angry about since they were supposed to install them years ago based on their agreement.

hmm... i see. thanks for the informative reply.

i still think it is a loss for the industry and airports of B&H, from what i understand other airports such as SJJ also has limitations on runway because of it's placement and not being able to install equipment?

just out of curiosity, where does the planes divert to when they can't land in places like Tuzla, Banja Luka, Sarajevo or Mostar?

Don't know about others but Wizz Air to Tuzla always diverts to BEG

That depends on the airline. Wizz from Tuzla always diverts to Belgrade because they have a base there and ground handlers 24 hours (they use a different company not BEG airport ground handlers)

Diversions in Dalmatia is usually not for fog but bura winds in SPU, DBV, ZAD. Not even an ILS of any category can help there, neither do approach lights etc.

@anon 13:47, TZL DOES have APP lights (for ILS runway 09)! They spent a fortune on them few years ago, had a Finish team if not wrong along on the project. But they are non standard length of 720 instead of 900 m. Due to a forest west of the runway that grew wild and the managements and politicians lack of competence and willingnes to have it resolved asap.

New politically appointed airport manager, who already had a shot until a few years ago, has taken over again and already messing with fact and fiction. Like if his facts are from his previous run years back. If that "standard" continues, we shall be happy Wizz even stays there. Several articles can be found at Tuzlarije.net and other portals.

Wizzair and Ryanair are the best things that happened in Bosnia since war ended. Let's hope they will stay here for many years.

Occupancy rate in January 2020 was 90.82%, and in January 2019 it was 86.65%. That is really impressive.
