NEWS FLASH

Greek carrier Aegean Airlines will discontinue its flights between Athens and Sarajevo as a result of the effects of the coronavirus Covid-19 outbreak. In a letter to Sarajevo Airport’s management, the airline confirmed it would not be resuming the route in 2020. Flights between the two cities were launched last year and were to resume twice per week at the end of May. Aegean's services to its other destinations across the former Yugoslavia (Belgrade, Dubrovnik, Podgorica, Skopje, Split and Zagreb) will continue to operate as planned.

My guess is that they will route passengers via Zagreb on OU once the merger happens.

Actually if you go onto the Aegean website and select Sarajevo, it offers you only connections via Belgrade since Aegean codeshares with Air Serbia to Sarajevo.

They don't offer them through their website to Sarajevo, neither do they codeshare with them to Sarajevo.

Aegean bought 25% of Romania's Animawings so I don't think they will be buying OU.

Not sold that this has anything to do with covid. How come they didn't suspend any other seasonal ex-Yu routes?

      I agree.

It is time now for airliners to cut problematic routes and that nobody can blame them for doing it

Yes. They were suspended years ago. We are talking about 2020.

All routes that were borderline profitable before the COVID-19 crisis will surely be loss making now.
I am sure other routes will be cut too. By every airline!

Aegean previously increased from 2 to 4 weekly for summer 2020. It couldn't be that bad
