NEWS FLASH

The Croatian government has banned flights to and from the United Kingdom over the next 48 hours after the UK reported a more infectious coronavirus variant. Croatia joins a growing list of countries, including Germany, Italy, Belgium, Ireland, Turkey and Canada, that are suspending UK flights. European Union member states are due to meet in Brussels later today to discuss a co-ordinated response on travel bans for Britain. Out of the 27 member states, Croatia and Slovenia have the fewest number of weekly flights to the United Kingdom at the moment.

Serbia, what are you waiting for?? Wizz from Luton landed this morning, Air Serbia flies in the afternoon. Arrivals from the UK need to go to a state-operated quarantine. This is very dangerous, we are only now managing to lower the new daily infected, we don't need another strain to cause havoc.

The new strain was known since September, it's only being mentioned now because there aren't enough vaccines and Christmas is just around the corner.

These flight bans are all to do with Brexit. The mutation of the virus was known in September, but whilst the rest of the UK went into partial lockdown, London and Kent had more relaxed rules such as allowing pubs and restaurants to open, that's why the virus has gone out of control there.
This new strain of Covid has also been found in Italy and The Netherlands, why aren't flights being banned there also?

Because now the EU must force London to allow French fishermen to fish in their territorial waters.

The EU does not make a decision based on statements of local politicians. They make their decisions based on commercial interests.

Serbia and Albania were the countries which had the most relaxed and easier entries to Europe this year. No wonder why the JFK route boomed this summer because the rest of Europe was closed to them.
Here Croatia is just obeying the EU rules and banning the flights similar to what happened in the entire EU.
I don't think Serbia will ban UK flights.

Ironic considering the infection rate in Croatia is currently higher than in the UK.
