Wizz Air has again delayed the launch of its new Belgrade – Sandefjord service, which was to commence on March 28. The route will now be introduced on April 25 and will operate twice per week. Flights between Norway and Belgrade are currently operated by Air Serbia, which maintains flights from Oslo’s main airport of Gardermoen, while Norwegian Air Shuttle will restore the same service on April 3. Wizz Air is still sticking to its plan to commence new flights between Belgrade and Hamburg on March 28.

ReplyDeleteSeems Wizz is struggling a bit when ut comes to Norway. So far they've gotten a bad reputation for their inability to land in regular Norwegian winter conditions, and following that, their lack of options for the passengers who didn't get to their destinations. The Sandefjord flights aren't only depending on Serbs; if Norwegians don't want to fly, the route will be cancelled.

He means when Wizz pilot elects to go to alternate when weather conditions are not within company and Airbus limitations. That is a big shame. They should risk their and passenger lives and try to land ..... right?
DeleteNo, it's not that - usually LLCs avoid any adverse weather as they don't want an aircraft stranded at an airport due to high utilization rates. So while a legacy will land, LLCs will divert.

DeleteWhat I mean is that Wizz pilots aren't familiar with Norwegian winter conditions and the way Norwegian airports clean the runways of snow, thus they have chosen to return rather than land. This has happened several times after they started flying domestic in Norway, and they've been the only company to do do. Also, their anti union attitude has made them extremely unpopular in Norway.

DeleteRef. Tuzla: how on earth they can land if the visibility is below the ILS minima like every other day between October and April? Are you expecting them not to follow the law and land below the minima?? It took the airport years to built an ILS and runway lighting system to reach even the worse ILS visibility minima (550 meters for Catergory I). All Wizz crew and aircraft are capable for CAT IIIB landing minima (75m horizontal and zero meter vertical visibility). The only thing missing is the ILS which is the responsibility of the airport. Btw every airports of ex-yu except BEG, ZAG and LJU operates low category ILS systems.
No Norwegian airports operate with compacted snow, and Wizz only fly to the bigger ones. What er do is scrape off snow with snow plows, then remove the rest with brushes before the runway is gritted with fine grained sand which is then burned into the tarmac. Thanks to special equipment this takes ca five minutes and leaves the runway with summer conditions. Wizz never informed their pilots about this, do they based themselves on weather forecasts, asumed conditions were icy, and returned. Again and again...
DeleteWizz is landing on rwys with compacted snow. Also on rwys with treated snow. The thing is that limitations for crosswind on those rwys are more strict so this can be the problem. And it is not so much Wizz as it is Airbus rules.
