Sarajevo Airport handled 61.989 passengers in November, representing a decrease of just 8% on the same month in the pre-pandemic 2019, or just over 5.300 fewer travellers. During the January - November period, the airport welcomed 696.934 passengers through its doors, down 35.6%. Sarajevo Airport began catching up to its pre-pandemic performance over the summer, when a number of carriers from the Gulf introduced new operations to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s capital. Figures were further aided by the opening of Wizz Air’s base in the city, which will further grow next week, however, the expansion has been significantly scaled down due to the coronavirus pandemic and travel restrictions, with some new routes only operating for several weeks prior to their suspension until the coming summer season in late March 2022. Bosnia and Herzegovina is currently one of Europe’s best performing air markets in terms of variations to the pre-pandemic era.

ReplyDeleteI know a lot of Bosnians who in the past used to fly to ZAG, SPU or DBV and then drive across the border. However, due to the pandemic and border bureaucracy with testing, vaccines, etc., many decided to fly straight to SJJ this past year.
ReplyDeleteThat is true. I worked in one Touristic Agency which had an airport transfers from these airports. Government in Croatia affected their airport because of the stupid rules.

ReplyDeleteWhen TZL INI and BNX started LCC services they saw growth in thousands of %. If you had low numbers for years and suddenly open doors to LCCs it's easy to have significant growth.
ReplyDeleteWhat are talking about? BNX has flights since last year! So you cannot compare BNX neither with SJJ nor with BEG, FRA, AMS, LHR, ...

Excellent and impressive results so far from SJJ. The new airport management is doing the right thing opening new routes and securing more bridges from West to East.
DeleteBNX had flights since last year? This happened 33 months ago: Banja Luka Airport started the year off on a strong note by handling 8.838 passengers, representing an increase of 634.7%

What shocks me is that SJJ, PRN and even TIA....TIA have recorded almost 2,5 million pax until 31.10 which means it is almost neck to neck with BEG and SOF for example. Unbelievable.
ReplyDeleteAlbanians who work in Italy HAVE to get vaccinated if they dont want to loose their jobs . So flights are full of vaccinated passengers and are profitable for the airlines .

I am wondering what's wrong with Berlin connection. It is sad that there is no connection between two capitals. Last time I was flying from Berlin was with Ryanair to Banjaluka, now there is only connection to Tuzla.
ReplyDeleteThe other thing: why didn't WizzAir try to open service with Vienna, when there are 2 or in summer season 3 daily flights to Vienna, ofc. due to connection flights?
I agree. Sarajevo does not have a direct line to Rome, Milan, Berlin, Hamburg, Warsaw, St. Petersburg, Ankara, Astana, and from these areas and for the same, the demand is huge, while for example we have for Paris, where there is not as much demand as for Berlin
