NEWS FLASH
The construction of Sarajevo Airport’s new terminal building is entering its final phase, with work expected to be completed early next year, after which the facility’s operational readiness will be trialled. The new building is spread out over four floors and 10.000 square metres. It will feature twelve check-in desks, five gates and one air bridge. It will be linked to the existing terminal to form a single functioning unit with the capacity to handle two million passengers per year. The airport has also signed a contract for a new Baggage Handling System. In the coming years, the airport plans to expand its apron, overhaul the runway, and relocate its existing oil depot.
Makes sense
ReplyDeleteThis project has been so delayed. Let's hope they open it by mid 2022.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the structure next to the terminal on the photos?

DeleteAhh thank you!
DeleteSo if the peak of SJJ was 1,1 million in 2019 and so far in 2021 it's 700,000 then with the terminal expansion and with the all those new routes, it has a safe chance to strike 2 million by 2024. If, we don't see new expansions that this. It will be ahead of LJU and maybe overtake SKP.
ReplyDeleteIt will be hard anytime soon for SJJ to overatake SKP, but the general trend for SJJ looks promising. Anyway, the point of SJJ should not be to overtake SKP or any other airport: also, Bosnia&Herzegovina has 4 airports geographically wonderfully distributed to cover all parts of the country while, for example, North Macedonia has one that grabs passengers not only from North Macedonia but also from Kosovo (it is basically potentially cca 2.5. million people/catchment area versus Sarajevo 1.1. million). It makes a difference despite Bosnia has larger population than Macedonia and larger diaspora as well that uses some other airports.
DeleteVery true, my friend. BiH indeed has 4+1 operational airports. SJJ has strong ME tourism in summer especially and SKP relies on PRN and Albanian diaspora traffic. Cannot wait to see that happens in the future with SJJ.
DeleteHow funny... Ever considered the fact that Bosnia is twice the size of N Macedonia? And it only has 1 more operational airport, so chill out.
DeleteFrom the outside, the new terminal looks great !
ReplyDeleteVery very beautiful Terminal
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, Sarajevo Airport should have been at this level 10 years ago and more. While I wish SJJ the best and think it deserves better, I think it's development will always be impeded by politics and nepotism. Sure the current CEO seems to be doing a good job, but he will probably be replaced at some point when a party member needs to put at a high position. Just look at what politics has done to Mostar.
