Flydubai will accelerate the planned expansion of its Ljubljana operations, which are now scheduled to take place in February rather than late June. As previsouly reported, the airline will increase frequencies from Dubai to the Slovenian capital from three to five weekly, however, the additional flights will now commence from the start of February. Currently, the carrier plans to maintain five weekly rotations until May 11, when they will decrease to three weekly, before returning to five weekly flights from June 27. Changes to the schedule remain possible. Flydubai commenced services to Ljubljana last September.
Once Emirates get B787s I expect them in Lju; route is a complete surprise to be honest.
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised. The demand was always there, it's just that it flew from ZAG, VCE, VIE.. and now it's from LJU.

DeleteAnd here we were told by the "experts" that the route will be terminated when the EXPO ends. And flydubai will even increase number of flights.

I have a feeling they could start in 2023 or 2024. Both Qatar and Flydubai flew to Skopje before corona so both could fly to LJU as well. Qatar is also getting 50 A321Neos, so they will expand a lot.

DeleteSKP had QR because of the large NMK diaspora in Australia. While Australia remains closed they will not return. FZ also postponed SKP most likely for the same reason.
DeleteSadly, LJU does not have such a diaspora but for sure traffic from Japan and South Korea.
I hope, that ANA will again think for regular summer flights. As they were already thinking about it and there are many turists from japan commeing to slovenia. As well robotic factory from japan is located in slovenia (only in slovenia for EU) so this could be great opurtunity.

ReplyDeleteIt is generally very high in winter during the last couple of years. There is a lot of demand because of the relaxed and eased entries, no visa required for many now especially EU members. Flights are also not so expensive from other places in the region. I would say, this route will remain for quite a time as tourism in Dubai is literally booming and it is becoming more liberal compared to previous years. You know, something like Tel Aviv yet not there yet. The coolest thing about this route is a mix of O&D and transfers with EK or with FZ to Tanzania, Kenya, Oman and some other cool countries to visit especially in winter.
DeleteI would not be surprised to see Wizzair launching DXB-LJU if demand further goes up. With their A321 230 seater you can get a really cheap price but the FZ product is way much superior.
Not sure that market can hold both Wizz and FZ; maybe if they open a base in Doha that would work
