NEWS FLASH

Air Serbia will grow its operations between Belgrade and Ljubljana over the coming two weeks after Slovenia lifted all its coronavirus entry requirements on Monday. The Serbian carrier will increase frequencies between the two capital cities from its existing six weekly service to eight weekly rotations from next Monday, after which frequencies will further grow to ten per week, starting March 14. All will be maintained with the ATR72 turboprop aircraft. In addition, the airline will continue to run two weekly flights between Niš and Ljubljana. Air Serbia was Ljubljana Airport’s fourth busiest airline in 2021, handling 26.127 travellers. The figure still amounts to just 40% of its pre-pandemic 2019 result when the airline saw a major uptick in passenger numbers on the route following the demise of Adria Airways, with October, November and December being its busiest months that year. The former Slovenian flag carrier filed for bankruptcy on September 30, 2019.

Air Serbia will have 12 weekly to LJU. In terms of frequencies where do they stand? They are probably top 5 in LJU.

Hopefully they will have 16 with INI in summer.

They had 17 beffore corona even when adria was still flying and those were just for BEG.

      This is not correct.

JU relaunched LJU in 2014 with 7 pw, which is when JP canceled BEG.

Summer 2015 it went to 14 pw. Summer 2017, LJU dropped to 12 pw and remained that way until JP went bankrupt. It was only after JP went bankrupt in 2019 that the midday JU192 rotation was introduced and frequencies brought up to 17 pw. This is excluding INI.

They are also increasing VIE to 10 weekly. I am not surprised today and tomorrow OS is sending A320. Demand must be strong. Also seems like YU-ALY is a regular on BEG-VIE. I guess they understand how uncompeteitive they were against OS with their 40 year old ATRs that were falling apart.

But they have only 5 flights scheduled for summer schedule? How does that make any sense

They still haven't updated their summer schedule for many routes.

I hope they improve the food. I flew a couple of weeks ago and got water and some crackers.

What do you expect? On Lufthansa you get a bottle of water and that's all.

@13:12 it it really an excuse to be as LH? why not raise the bar and aim higher at TK / SU or even QR? увек су ме учили да се огледам у бољеу од себе а не у горег. I full agree with Anon 13:00.

I don't know what you expect on inter European flights? You listed three highly unprofitable airlines that get billions in state support.

JU did have an onboard offering similar to what TK has, but it is not what the market wants. The market wants cheaper fares, and that is not achieved with a full onboard catering. TK and SU don't have to compete with ULCC as much as what European carriers do.

Maybe they can overcome this by introducing premium economy fare? I think they are missing some passengers who opt for SU/TK product rather than JU, would premium economy fill this gap?

JU offers 3 fare structures for economy class, plus the option to pre order a meal for flights, as well as lounge passes etc. It's up to the passenger to choose what they want. Dedicated premium economy cabins is therefore not needed.
