Croatia Airlines has introduced a new prepaid meal service on its domestic flights, enabling passengers to preorder their snack up to 72 hours prior to departure. Travellers can now reserve their meal during the ticket booking process, by contacting the carrier’s call centre or in the “manage booking” section of the company’s website. The meals (pictured) include a cheese sandwich or vegetarian sandwich, which cost six euros each, as well as a smoked ham sandwich or tuna sandwich which will set customers back seven euros. Economy class passengers are currently offered a complimentary bottle of water on Croatia Airlines’ domestic flights, while business class travellers are treated to a “Zagreb snack” made up of smoked cheese and crackers.
Ordering sandwich 3 days before you are gonna eat it will never become a thing.

DeleteThe only brilliant thing here is your comment. With step ahead you really made my day. LCC'S invented this some 20 years ago. That much for the step ahead. With only small difference that basic ticket for LCC'S on short services costs 20-50 euro return, in OU it's 100 to 200 euro return, which will definitely help them fight FR, if they open domestic services at all. Brilliant indeed, to fight FR on services they don't operate. LOL! And imagine only how many of these snacks they will have to sell to pay BCG only, let alone uhljebs who come daily to Buzin just to drink coffee and gossip, when not on holidays or sick leave

DeleteI still vividly remember bitter comments when Air Serbia introduced them three years ago. It is now OU's turn to take the heat. No longer a proper legacy carrier, LCC service with high prices of a legacy, customers will leave them and switch to lowcoster instead etc.
DeleteAir Serbia switched to BoB because they were broke at the time. So you remember what their service was in 2013 during Etihad times? They went from boutique to LCC in less than 4 years.

You have obviously not flown with Croatia Airlines for many many years or ever. BoB has been available on Croatia Airlines for years and you have to pay for all food except small snack (which is available only on 1+ hour flights). You also have to pay for all drinks except small Jana water. This is just an option that you can preorder something, probably because they will no longer sell anything on domestic flights mid air.
DeleteI've never flown on OU and god forbid I ever step on a OU plane. But I do know Air Serbia made the switch to BoB model before OU switched to LCC service. Also, preorder on JU was available for almost 3 years.

DeleteOnly a very few legacy carriers in Europe offer free catering. LH group turned to BoB. TK and SU still offer free catering but similar to JU, they are heavily funded by the government. Wonder if Tarom will be next.

Well British Airways announced yesterday that they are bringing back free catering in economy class on short-haul flights.

DeleteYes, they are. OU at least has less employees and does not need 24 million euros to fund dead routes and airports if you know what I mean.

DeleteOU has not had free meals for years. You get a packet of biscuits on longer flights and a bottle of water, just like on most European airlines. For the rest you have to pay. This is just them offering an option to preorder between 4 sandwiches on domestic flights because they have no service on domestic flights.

DeleteWhy only on domestic flights? They should offer the sandwiches on int. flights as well. Wonder, who will by a sandwich for 6 Euro on a flight within 45 min.
ReplyDeleteAegean has been offering free hot meals and drinks in every european flight and free snacks on their domestic flights. OU just introduced prepaid sandwiches, i don't see that as progress lol.
ReplyDeleteNot really. Aegean receives a lot of state aid as well similar to many airlines in the region. The sandwich is paid by the taxpayer.
DeleteAegean is private company and receives ZERO state aid in normal times. Maybe they did get something as covid aid, like almost all others
DeleteBritish Airways..short haul economy class.. they are talking about small bottle of water and packet of crisps.. is this " catering?" Many people used to book BA to ZAG, SPU, DBV ( and later PUY) from London because of free proper snack and free drinks.. from coffee/cola to wine/ gin and tonic ..on short haul flights.

Yes, dear. But with BA you also pay security. BA has an impeccable security record and a very long history. Experienced staff, experienced staff and punctual service. IAG Airlines are way much professional and profitable. Look at Iberia 10 years ago, and look where they are now. IAG and oneworld are higher class compared to SkyTeam with crappier airlines.

DeleteBA has an impeccable security record? Pure luck for BA038. If it had happened just one minute earlier 152 people plus many more on the ground could have died. BA is a great airline but stick to the facts.

DeletePozdrav, come on man. All airlines part of an alliance are "servants" - Frankfurt is one of the most important airports in Europe. Just check the number of served destinations. Istanbul likes to show off but a small city of barely 1 million is on the top and no I am not defending Germany. People here speak about feeding and feeding LH, well yes, this IS the biggest market. A big and rich country with lots of people...
DeleteI think it is worth for OU to have 5 FRA or MUC slots than 10 to Athens or Warsaw for instance. I am not defending OU but it is still a respectable airline with a low number of employees compared to the rest who depend very heavily on their governments and need politicians to launch routes and lobby on dead airports that nobody or few people would go, right?
