NEWS FLASH

easyJet will return to Rijeka after fifteen years with the introduction of two new seasonal routes, from London Gatwick and Berlin. Flights from both cities will be maintained twice per week, each Tuesday and Saturday, with operations from the British capital commencing on May 3, while services from the German capital will launch on June 28. Commenting on the development, Rijeka Airport said, “Thanks to the exceptional efforts and commitment made by the management, a mutual agreement has finally been made after many years of negotiations between Rijeka Airport and easyJet. The Ministry of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, the Primorsko - Goranska County, the cities of Rijeka, Opatija, Krk, Crikvenica, Omisalj, as well as hotel representatives, and the Tourist Board will support promotional activities needed to best position the Kvarner region on the British market, where it's still pretty unknown”. Further flight details for the London Gatwick - Rijeka service can be found here, while additional information for the Berlin operation can be viewed here.

Here I've been told by the Fraport fanboys that the reason why Easyjet almost completely terminated LJU is Easyjet's financial status, but in the meantime they will launch RJK. It's only excuse for Fraport's incompetence. I just hope they don't terminate LJU completely and plan to serve Slovenia via RJK..

You would be shocked had you known the support given by the government and HTZ to generate passenger traffic at Rijeka Airport. And I didn't mean financial support only (which is enormous too), remember that EasyJet is the largest carrier both in Split and Dubrovnik when it comes to international flights.

Enormous financial support for RJK by government? OK if you say so and think so but based on my information, it's exactly the opposite. Also remember that RJK always had LON flights be it JAT, Croatia, Air Adriatic, TUI, Ryanair, Easyjet, and very often two carriers simultaneously. Remember Easy came to RJK first, without any support, and only after RJK started LJU, ZAG, PUY, ZAD, SPU, DBV and other ex-yu destinations. If there is one flight that does not need support in RJK, it is London. So I really don't quite understand your post

Hope there will be more routes announced soon! Amsterdam - RJK would be a great addition, more and more Dutch people choosing Croatia as their holiday destination

My thought exactly. Never understood how Transavia can have 4 weekly RJK to Eindhoven and no Amsterdam. And one more missing big time - Paris - Orly preferably
