Air Serbia flight JU652 from Belgrade to Moscow was forced to return back to Nikola Tesla Airport on Friday afternoon shortly after departure due to an anonymous e-mail sent to Belgrade Airport warning of a bomb on board. The Airbus A330-200 aircraft landed safely in the Serbian capital, with all 209 passengers evacuated. The jet was inspected by anti-terrorist police units and no explosive devices were found. Other flights continued to operate normally to and from Belgrade Airport. According to media reports, the e-mail message included the author's discontent with Serbia's relations with Russia. Air Serbia is one of the few European airlines able to operate into Russia amid the ongoing war in Ukraine as Serbia has not imposed sanctions onto the country. Flight JU652 finally departed Belgrade seven hours after it was forced to return. Police said it is in the process of identifying the author of the threatening e-mail.
I wonder if the same idiot wrote to Turkish Airlines? after all, Turkey is a Nato member state and should be toeing the line wayyyy before Serbia. i really dont get the attention Belgrade is getting when you have EU members like Hungary and Nato member Turkey both resisting imposing sanctions.

ReplyDeleteWhat are they gonna do with more than 200 passengers and those waiting right now in Moscow ? Hopefully they have two spare A319s right now, because this may cause scheduling issues and delays over the next days as well.
The idiot should foot the bill for the landing, diversion, endangering aircraft operations and all other expenses.

And what does take3+ hrs to check a plane and let it go? Capable special forces?
ReplyDeleteBecause there are certain protocols that have to be followed and all luggage on the plane must be checked.

DeleteCabin crew perform safety and security checks before every flight, in the pax cabin. Depending on the aircraft, they take up to 30 mins to complete. At some airports, a licensed provider can perform them, however a lighter search is still conducted by cabin crew. This is a regular day.
DeleteA bomb threat intensifies the search, which is why it take hours to complete, due to the detail of the search. Pax, luggage, cargo, cabin, galley, lavatories, flight deck etc.
Unfortunately, it's stupid people like these that make traveling soo complicated due to added security.
