Iran has ratified a new Air Service Agreement with Serbia four years after it was drafted. The agreement simplifies the process of introducing scheduled commercial flights between the two countries. The Iranian parliament approved the deal this week, following its Serbian counterpart in 2020. Under the agreement, designated airlines from both countries can launch flights between any points in each others’ respective states. Furthermore, it enables codesharing between carriers. The number of frequencies between the two must receive prior approval from each side. In a statement, the Iranian parliament said, “This agreement was signed with the aim of using air services in the exchange of goods, passenger transportation and expansion of international mail (postal services) and it strengthens economic relations and other areas of cooperation between the two countries”. Iranian carrier Mahan Air operated regular charter flights between Tehran and Belgrade from May. However, they almost exclusively catered for transfer passengers to and from China. The service was terminated in July after Hainan Airlines launched scheduled operations between Beijing and the Serbian capital.

DeleteUkraine Airlines used to fly to Teheran and had many transfers on their flights to Toronto, mainly students and families traveling back and forth. At least 50 or so pax per flight. Canada has bad relations with Iran so there won't be any direct flights for years to come. Air Serbia could capitalize on this market if they flew to YYZ.
ReplyDeleteAir Serbia doesn't fly to Tehran nor is there any indication they will. An Air Service Agreement does not mean flights will be launched. Serbia signed an Air Service Agreement with Sri Lanka 4 years ago. It doesn't result in flights.

DeleteReally?! Of course it doesn't fly to IKA, who said it does? But it is more likely for either JU or a Iranian carrier to launch flights. Same for YYZ, it is on Air Serbia's radar, so maybe one day. All I said it would be a good chance to capitalize on a large transfer market. Nothing else was said.
DeleteSimilar to Saudi Arabia, the Iran evisa price is ridiculously expensive. I mean 70-80€ is not cheap at all. Countries need to understand that abolishing visas is only beneficial in many cases especially with the more developed countries.

DeleteTherefore Serbia had to re-introduce visa regime with Iran.
Those stupid yet basic and very fundamental policies such as visa regimes are still being neglected by so many countries. Pity Iran is still on that line.
DeleteI mean, look at the countries of East Africa and how SE Asia and how easy and cheap it is to get a visa online, on arrival or simply just get your passport stamped and stay for 1, 3 o 6 months. They benefit, you benefit, continuous traffic and so on.
Visas are intended as punishment and discrimination .

@09:48 unfortunately, you are absolutely correct. Most of the Ex-Yu always has that threat subtly reminded whenever they don't do things the Eu likes. The best response would be reciprocity.
