NEWS FLASH

Skopje Airport is in discussions with Air Montenegro over the potential introduction of flights from Podgorica to the Macedonian capital. The two cities were last linked with a nonstop air service in 2011 when Montenegro Airlines abruptly cancelled flights over fears its aircraft may be impounded due to unpaid fees. Later on, B&H Airlines operated its Sarajevo - Skopje service via Podgorica, although the carrier had no fifth freedom rights to sell tickets on the Podgorica - Skopje sector. Air Montenegro is in the process of drafting its 2023 summer season timetable and is looking to add a number of new routes. “If we finalise all of the negotiations currently taking place, we will have to lease two larger aircraft for next summer season”, the carrier said recently.

AM should get 5th freedom rights for SKP-LJU route and operate the flights: TDG-SKP-LJU-TDG-LJU-SKP-TDG

Is there any demand? This route was highly transfer back at the time?

    https://www.exyuaviation.com/2009/05/montenegro-airlines-to-skopje.html

"The line would at first be seasonal but if successful could continue throughout the year and flights could be introduced from Podgorica. Montenegro Airlines would operate to Skopje 4 times per week and would allow Macedonian passengers to connect to Montenegro’s popular service to Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport."

Now that Rasha is closed, what happens?

For sure there are better options to fly overseas than Podgorica. At the moment, this is Istanbul and Vienna (both X2) a day. But, even Vienna itself is just a regional hub, so that leaves only Istanbul as a major hub. SKP's problem is lack of direct connection to another major Western Europe hub (AMS, CDG, FRA), which would make a two flight trip to any city in Northern America possible. Podgorica for sure doesn't play that role.

I think this will work, since SKP does not have direct connection with the main airports of Frankfurt and Paris, as well as with Ljubljana. Also, there are many macedonians that go on holidays in Crna Gora, so it would be great!

You actually don't check data before you post. Most MNE arrivals were from Serbia, BiH, France, Germany and UK. North Macedonia is not even on the top 5 list:

      https://seenews.com/news/foreign-tourist-arrivals-to-montenegro-rise-20-yy-in-august-799563

The route is intended for Albanians in NMK to transit to Europe as it was the case before.

What do you mean with "I think this will work, since SKP does not have direct connection with the main airports of Frankfurt and Paris". SKP needs direct to AMS, FRA, CDG or LHR for one stop conections to North and South America. If you think that somobesy will fly to Paris via Podgorica, or even to Chicago, Toronto etc. via Podgorica-Paris good luck, I know I wont.
