NEWS FLASH

AnadoluJet has delayed the launch of its new two weekly service between Izmir and Belgrade. Scheduled a month ago, the flights were to launch on February 16. However, the carrier, which is a virtual lower cost brand of Turkish Airlines, has now pushed back the route’s start date to April 13, to coincide with Air Serbia’s first flight on the route on April 15. The two airlines are codeshare partners and working towards a Joint Venture agreement. Last week, the Serbian carrier said Izmir was one of its best-selling new routes slated to launch this summer, with a number of flights already sold out during the upcoming summer months. Information on AnadoluJet’s modified Izmir - Belgrade schedule can be found here.

It's obvious that these flights are postponed due to low demand. If I remember correctly they cut BEG-ESB last February for a while.
It was extremely courageous to schedule these flights in February which is the slowest month of the year.

I remember when they launched Ankara they had between 20 and 60 passengers per flight. Eventually this route matured to the point that this summer we are going to have 8 weekly flights.

Izmir region is very wealthy so I am sure many of them will eventually visit Serbia... or at least transfer via BEG.
Turkish arrivals in 2022 were through the roof.

I see no point in starting a new route (which is a summer route mainly, at least in the beginning), in the middle of the slowest month of the year.
