Finnair will reduce operations on its seasonal service between Helsinki and Zagreb, which will be restored on April 9. The carrier will maintain one weekly flight between the two capitals for the majority of April, each Sunday, with the Airbus A319 aircraft. From April 27, a second weekly service, each Thursday, will be introduced with the A319, while the Sunday flights will be operated with the Embraer E190 from April 30. The carrier will maintain two weekly rotations between the two until June 20, when a third weekly service will be added, which will run until August 8, after which operations will again be reduced to two weekly until the end of the summer season in late October. The carrier had initially planned to run three weekly flights between the two cities for the entire summer season.
How is this even ok? I just hope they don't cut LJU.
ReplyDeleteThis is the end result of the airport increasing its fees so it can offer a free ride for Ryanair. So far Air France, British Airways and Lufthansa have decimated their summer network to ZAG. Now Finnair.

DeleteJust judgoing by the prices LJU has higher demand, the lowest one way ticket i could find was 140€ whereas from ZAG it's at 99€ - and what's concerning is that most of the flights are still being sold at that price, whereas LJU flights are selling for more than 200€ on some days
DeleteNot just that but with higher fares and lower fees at LJU they are probably making more money than in ZAG
DeleteMy guess is that we'll see more and more flights moved to Ljubljana, especially with border completely gone. We see it with Paris, Dubai and now Helsinki, all three having more frequency in Ljubljana

DeleteSo how come ZAG is more expensive than LJU, while ticket prices say the opposite? If ticket prices are high due to the demand, how come ZAG has 4 times more passengers than LJU?

Because LJU lost JP and is only now starting to recover. ZAG on the other hand got FR and their growth was not as expected.

Ticket prices aren't neccessarily related to airport fees. This just means that there are more tickets sold and better yield in LJU for these specific routes, after all frequencies speak for itself. Relax
DeleteI remember when SU launched LJU they crushed JP overnight and shifted capacity from ZAG which was reduced to daily SSJ while LJU got the second daily flight.

DeleteEasyJet contact told me their LGW-ZAG was v successful and really high LF. They dropped it as ZAG fees soared.. but not for OU.

OU also operated Zagreb to Gatwick at one time, but Kucko scrapped them.
DeleteZagreb Airport are upsetting all of their customers to subsidise Ryanair. This is what happens. Once the major Airlines have left Zag Airport will try and increase Ryanair fees as the Airport will be loss making, they will soon leave and Zagreb will end up like Ljubljana!

ReplyDeleteWrong. Uskok needs to look at OU. But it will not happen because Croatia is not a country with rule of law. It's partitocracy, where majority of people live worse than back in Yugoslavia. And just wonder what's not true in this post to be erased

DeleteHelsinki was always and remains an expensive destination, hard to sustain market and also not so beneficial for many airlines. Few carriers actually managed to maintain flights there. Finland-Spain remains one of the most strongest markets.
