NEWS FLASH

Wizz Air and Lufthansa were the only two carriers to apply for a renewed public call issued by the Macedonian Ministry for Transport and Communications for the provision of financial support for the introduction of new European routes from Skopje and Ohrid airports up until December 30, 2025. It comes after the previous tender was annulled due to errors with documentation submitted by the applicants. Last time around Wizz Air, Lufthansa and Aegean Airlines all submitted bids, however, the Greek national carrier did not partake this time around. Under the terms outlined in the public call, airlines must maintain flights to newly launched destinations at least twice per week throughout the year for the duration of the financial assistance, develop a plan for marketing and promotion and submit a report on its operations to the Ministry of Transport and Communications every six months The Ministry will now select the winner based on the number of weekly flights offered on the new routes, the volume of passengers at the destination airport (the busier the airport the greater the chance of the route being subsidised), as well as the amount of offered capacity. Funding will not be provided for routes from Skopje which have been operated from the airport in the past two seasons (summer and winter), nor from Ohrid if they have been operated either from the lakeside city or the Macedonian capital over the past two seasons. Macedonia will subsidise the services by providing each airline with seven euros per passenger on each new route from Skopje, and 4.5 euros per passenger on each new route from Ohrid. The commission has fifteen days to announce the winner(s).

Probably the only destination was Athens.
Now they are gone, but they are increasing the number of flights with their own efforts, without subsidies;)))

some are harsh on Wizzair but they are the only lcc with a real interest in SKP (and their success proves them right). You cant blame them for Easyjet ignoring SKP-Basel for 10 years and counting

Dordmund,Colonge-Bonn and Eindhoven are realy close and most people live in the Dordmund -Colonge area. Weeze would be a nice addition especially if they can offers low prices but it's not top priority.

its not a priority now for sure, the point is that Ryanair didnt want to start such a obvious route at all even when Dortmund was two-weekly. Now there are 15 weekly flights to DTM,EIN and CGN combined

the rule to maintain a route after the end of subsidies for the same amount of time was probably too much for airlines like Ryanair or every other that have never flown to SKP.

LH is a confident airline, Wizz is de facto a home carrier

Sad about Agean but let's see what the future holds. It was a nice surprise when they applied.

LH is probably only chasing the incentives for FRA.

Might be interesting to see what is going to happen with flights from LJU-SKP.

No matter which airline is going to serve it, they will get subsides from two countries. And LH could serve this route as well with an airplane from Munich - for example:
    MUC - LJU - SKP - LJU - MUC

Not possible. Slovenian tender is published. Article 6, point 3: "the applicant has not been awarded and has not applied for the award of any other state aid for the operation of the new air route in connection with which he submitted the application".
