Air Serbia sells over 55.000 promotional tickets

NEWS FLASH

Air Serbia has sold 55.061 tickets under promotional fares which were available for purchase between September 4 and September 17, representing almost one-third of its total ticket sales during the period. The promotional fares were valid for travel between September 15 and December 20. The largest number of tickets were sold on Zurich flights, followed by Istanbul and Barcelona. A total of 67 destinations featured a limited number of promotional fares on select days. “Our analysis of travel trends indicates that during September and October passengers prefer to travel to destinations where they can still enjoy swimming, while in November and December, the demand for European capitals is on the rise. Keeping that in mind, we prepared a promotional campaign that offered passengers the opportunity to visit some of the most popular cities in Air Serbia’s network at affordable prices”, the carrier said. Air Serbia recently handled its three-millionth passenger of the year and is on course to "greatly exceed" the previously set target of 3.5 million passengers in 2023.

It is actually, a few years ago it was fairly common for leisure destinations to start decreasing in pax number in mid September or even earlier. Nowdays the summer vacations are extended by a month

@Anon 10:46 You do those kind of analysis if you are sure someone is there as back up anyways, for Air Serbia it is the state with its aid.

That's because people in Serbia have more disposable income so they can afford to go for an extended weekend to a sunny destination. Also thanks to JU-W6 competition fares are much lower now.

^ Wery much true. That's why we are going to MLA in mid October. Cheap W6 tickets, ~25°C, off-seasson prices and not so crowded.

Zurich was first but not necessarily from Belgrade, could be to Belgrade. As you can see Barcelona was third and that is not a gasto route

Actually at Zurich you can swim.
Its situated on a big lake.
Maybe a little cold now but a real swimmer shouldnt care.

The good news actually is that JU is massively preparing to level out seasonality.
Short city trips make a lot of sense in winter .
Swimming is still an option and for that you have charter flights to Egypt for example.
JU always can extend charters into the winter season.

Which one is preferable for Serbian between TJN and ORD ?

BCN seems to be selling like crazy. Look at their fares in November, lowest fares are almost all gone. All flights this winter are immediately put as A320, no more A319 on this route like this summer. Very good news.

Hopefully in summer BCN goes to 14 weekly. It's also very popular with transfer passengers.

  5. I personally bought 12 seats to three destinations. Too good of a deal to pass up. Would have bought more if there were better weekend options.

  7. I find it interesting that an airline would release these types of metrics. This is typically confidential information as to not give your competition an advantage.

Can you elaborate a bit, why this is confidential and how the competitors can use it?

at 18:35 im going to guess but if a competitor finds out when a company plans to offer these special prices and for which dates they can plan to undercut them by offering even lower prices on certain amount of those days. or maybe offer it at more convenient times and dates so air serbia would end up losing a lot of money on empty flights.

We are talking about why JU released the amount of seats sold and if this was a mistake to do so.

    6. Anonymous06:59

Because why not? Airlines have tools to check passenger numbers on routes so this is just JU running a PR campaign and that's perfectly fine.

I am curious to see how well their AMS route performed since KLM had a sale during the same period. You could fly to AMS for €120 return. The moment JU's sale ended so did KL's.

We all know that airlines have these tools, they get info daily about when, where and how did pax buy their tickets. Buy why would you share this info with your competitors?
Did Wizz share the results of their last month or two of sales? Will KLM? Somehow I doubt it., but let us know if they ďo.
