Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport will introduce eGates or automated self-service passport control by the end of the year, which will enable passengers to simply scan their travel documents to be passed through for facial recognition. According to the Serbian Minister for Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, the new technology has been ordered by the Interior Ministry and will be installed at the airport by the end of December. It will complement manual passport control. Legislation had to be modified to enable the usage of the equipment. Earlier this year, the Minister noted that, during the first phase of its implementation, the eGates will be accessible to passengers traveling to and from the European Union. The eGates are expected to be installed both on departures and arrivals. eGates usually involve a two-step process. Passengers first scan their passport after which the first gate opens. The traveller’s photo is then taken for facial recognition, after which a second gate is opened, and the passenger can continue onwards with their journey.

DeleteWhich London airport you are talking about? I have a British passport and it always worked like a charm in LHR, LGW, STN… and significantly decreases queues at the border.

ReplyDeleteIt is very likely that it will be possible to use them in the EU with Serbian passports soon. That is why the legislation was changed.
DeleteSerbian passport holders that are EU residents can use these in Germany since this year. Not sure about other countries though

DeleteThey could pay more attention to cleaning of the airport. It is very dusty and dirty. They need detailed cleaning. Not to mention toilets at departures and arrival (baggage hall) it is very dirty and stinky. You can smell urine 15 meters away. I do not understand how come airport that is investing 732 million EUR can not properly clean the toilet. As a Serbian, I am ashamed that our visitors get this kind of first impression about our country.

DeleteE-Gates news or not but I was shocked and ashamed when I used toilet at the baggage hall yesterday evening. I made this comment hoping someone from the airport would see this and change the situation.
DeleteIts a fair comment. The toilets in Belgrade airport are shamefull. And investing in that is a minimum effort that should be addressed before other things. Perhaps its possible for the media to write about the toilets there considering the first impression a country is its airport.

I went to wizz air check in today at BEG and the girl was texting on her phone while doing my check-in. unbelievably unprofessional.
Then make airport maintenance a news topic. Editor could reach out to Airport for comment. No need for gory details every time Belgrade airport is mentioned.
DeleteYeah editors are going to send question and ask why does our reader think your toilet stinks. Some people on here... And on top of that 99.9% of people don't care, especially since its very subjective. I have used the toilet last time in BEG (there are many) and it was fine. It wasn't dirty. You will find most public toilets in the world stink because people are animals.
DeleteDL and AC recently had unsavory experiences on their flights but that didn't stop press from inquiring and reporting. There is a way to deal with any topic in a measured, professional way. Much better than reading frequent comments where the don't belong.

DeleteThe toilets have never been more filthy than public toilets in general. I've seen much worse around EU. People are stinky, urine is stinky, feces are stinky. Nothing new there.
Used these in Dubai and Doha this year (with Serbian passport, also Serbian resident) and it was extremely quick and hassle free.

DeleteAno12:36 what exactly do you think happen when the border officer takes your passport, slide it in a machine? And do you think that you are not filmed during the whole time? You already provided your biometrics info when you did your passport…
DeleteThe good thing about these machines, if you are a frequent flyer, is that it avoids putting a stamp in your passport, making it last longer.

DeleteThe sheep here must be you LOL. Don`t you realize that your passport will get scanned regardless? The only difference is that you do it yourself at the eGate, and not manually by an officer. U can`t be travelling much, and if this is a problem to u, stay at home.
