NEWS FLASH

Air Serbia expects to handle over four million passengers this year, up from its initial forecast of up to 3.5 million. Speaking at the Aviation Day South East Europe conference in Belgrade, Mr Marek said, “We can safely say that we will reach 3.5 million passengers during October. This year we will break the new record and handle over four million passengers”. Commenting further on passenger performance, Mr Marek noted, "This market was always set to grow faster than the rest of Europe. The demand is there after Covid and if you are able to deploy capacity fast enough and act you will benefit from it. We are operating, on average, about 40% above 2019 levels. We will be reaching record-breaking passenger numbers and record-breaking profitability this year”. He added, “The biggest surprise for us this year was the Lisbon route which started in April and was immediately sold out. We have a high load factor on this service, which is why we are increasing frequencies this winter. We are also opening Porto, after the success of Lisbon and the schedule enables passengers to combine both destinations because they don’t operate on the same days. Unexpectedly, Izmir has also performed very well. We have been looking at Izmir for several years but in discussions with Turkish Airlines we decided that both we AnadoluJet would open it, and that destination has performed really well. I would highlight those two, since all the others were no-brainers”.

Great news. hopefully they start the new china routes and north american route with some added frequency they can get to at least 4.5 million next year close to 5.
if they sort out the fleet interior, customer service and the geopolitical situation doesnt change then it will be close to 5 million for them

That would put them on course to surpass JAT’s all time record of 4,5 million passengers from 1987. And with a home market size that’s a quarter of what it was back then. Astonishing.

    Congrats JU!

I think the key statement is the following "if you are able to deploy capacity fast enough and act you will benefit from it"

Shows that at the moment capacity and crew constraints are putting the bigest restraint on their ability to grow

Which new destinations will you actually see in the next two years? IMO Guangzhou, Beijing, Manchester, Dublin, 100% Alicante and Tenerife, Seville, Wroclaw, Romanian routes, more Greek routes. Options are also Baku, Paphos, Morocco, Beirut, Amman, Riyadh or Jeddah.

What is the problem with aircrafts? There is absolute silence on A330s and A321s. Why so many wet lease during winter?

I don't think BEY or AMM will come next summer. LX have just suspended flights to BEY, possibly more companies to follow. FR is rerouting flights to AMM over the Sinai.

RUH and JED not for another couple of years.

Biggest issue I see with Morocco is the visa regime in place, which isn't helping to increase tourism from Serbia to the country. TUN being relaunched could be a possibility and more likely.

Italy and Greece seem to be doing ok and I can see a couple more routes being launched. Mykonos, Santorini, Brindisi, Genoa, Turin. Strasbourg and Bordeaux in France. Possible return to HEL now that the ERJ's are in the fleet. Wroclaw and Gdansk I see as the next 2 Polish routes, Cluj in Romania. KIV I think is fairly likely next year.

YYZ I don't think will come before another 1-2 routes to the US is launched. Hopefully I am wrong but it wouldn't surprise me.

Even with two more A332s they would launch Guangzhou, Shanghai and Miami and increase frequencies to ORD, TSN and even JFK to 9 or 10 per week.

I dont see YYZ not until 5th or 6th A332 arrives

JMK & JTR will need to rely on feeders. Cost of accommodation on those 2 will rule out any locals from going there as they do to Rhodes, Chalkidiki, or some of the less popular islands. Hopefully in a few years that situation will change.

I agree, Alicante is the busiest Spanish airport in the east coast, serves 2-3 million people and 15 million tourist each year, will work better than Valencia or Porto.

Maybe before bragging about how many passengers they will fly, they should get their crap together. I have been downgraded from business to economy on 4 flights, sat in Belgrade 11 hours because they could not find a plane for my flight and had my ticket cancelled because they switched to a smaller plane and forgot to let me know.
