NEWS FLASH

Skopje Airport plans to add an additional ten check-in desks next year to cater for the continued growth in passenger numbers. The General Manager of airport operator TAV Macedonia, Nejat Kurt, said, “I can say that for the next year, we are planning to expand the check-in area, with an additional ten counters, in order to increase capacity because we are expecting higher traffic next year. We will make some slight adaptations here and there [next year], but the major change that we are planning to make is the increase in the check-in area”. Skopje Airport currently boasts 23 check-in counters.

With such rapid passenger growth this is more than needed. SKP is thriving right now.

They need also to invest in parking capacity , check in counters are also needed , I also think they need new bridges and gates because its truly they expect more pax next year and the years coming.

Yeah this summer there were nights when 14 to 15 planes were parked. Only 6 are available at the new terminal building and the rest of them were parked at the old ramp which has 17 places i think. Also, sometimes its hard to find parking space for the car, its almost full always,

SKP will need at least two years to overtake ZAG. But it will happen of course if some things doesnt change at ZAG.

Problem with ZAG is that LJU is finally starting to wake up. PRN tried to compete with SKP but it failed so now it is stuck at like 10 destinations that are mostly for gasto traffic. Even all new Chair destinations are boring, typical ones.
SKP has a more diverse offer because Macedonia has actual tourism and business demand.

Sure it can. To get to the likes of Zabreg it needs 800.000 more passengers than it's currently handling.
Whereas to surpass PRN, it only needs an additional 600.000 by years end.

Exactly because PRN is basically a big bus stop with departures to main gasto routes. Airlines that don't fly from PRN to gasto destinations struggle. On the other hand SKP does really, really, really well and has a bright future ahead. Just look how well Lufthansa is doing.

PRN will have to rely on reiseburo mafia to shuttle people from PRN to Basel, Zurich etc.

06:28 - Lufthansa is Skopje's only real big legacy achievement since it opened its doors 40 or 50 years ago, idk. Now that they have Lufthansa, they think the world is theirs lol
If PRN relies on gasto people, what about all the possible German villages connected to SKP. There were even flights to Swedish villages noone has heard before. Give us a break.

LH wasnt the only thing that hapend to SKP. 20 years ago SKP had three macedonian carriers, and now SKP has Wizz Air. You dont have anything else to say, its a fact that SKP pax numberd are growing and will continue to grow. The charters have also grown so much compared to last year.

When the 6th plane of W6 comes in Mid-December, skp will have similar number of flights per day like they had during the summer months. Over 40 flights per day are expected on certain days of the week next summer. 35-36 was the max we had this summer.

Lufthansa numbers I guess are improving, they are sending frequently A321 and A320 now, compared to A319 for the summer period. Also Pegasus is thriving with their network. Wizz needs to start all the new flights they promised plus resume Torino. I flew to Bologna this weekend Friday and Monday, and both flights were overbooked, which for November doesn't look that bad.

    1. Anonymous16:56

True that. LH has scheduled A320s for this winter instead of A319s. But, OS reduced the flights from 14 to 10, so some days there is a morning flight to FRA and some days to VIE. A few days ago i was checking the LF on all of W6 flights for that day, and all of them were with over 90% LF, some of them were totally full on both directions, only BUD had 150 pax out of 230. I have also flown to Bologna in April and in July and the flights were full as well as from Malta to Skopje. Venice or Treviso is always full, at least when i flew the route 16 times in the past.

I think Turkish is losing the momentum for a bit in SKP, since I'm pretty sure Lufthansa "stole" some transfer passengers and also didn't introduce a third mid day flight on some days as planned, and Pegasus is overall serving SKP much better compared to Turkish

Short term solution, reactivate the old terminal and make it Wizz only.
Long term solution, extend the new terminal building on North side and add 4 jet Bridges.
For summer it's more than needed.

Been to the old one, walk outside (no bus) in dark, to get to Austrian Fokker 100. 😀 Fokkers are long gone.
But WIZZ is low cost, wo you get what you paid for.
Many airports around the world are using alternative terminals for LCC, i dont aee nothing wrong with that.
Ground handling fees are cheaper, not using Jet-bridges saves money. So it's an option.

The terminal is outdated and everything inside is broken. They need to renovate it from inside and outside, plus the building is small on its own.

The new MOU that was signed between Serbia and Macedonia for the high speed train Belgrade - Nis - Skopje also foresees connecting SKP to the same train link. I hope this will really happen in our life time.

You want to say that the train will pass from the train station in Skopje to the airport and continue on on its route to Belgrade? If this happens, it would be so cool, although we already have a bus servive which is used by everyone and the price is okay and even cheap for tourists.
