Wizz Air to shift airports on two Skopje - Italy routes

NEWS FLASH

Wizz Air will shift airports in Italy for two of its routes from Skopje. Starting April 1, the low cost airline will move its Skopje – Rome Fiumicino flights to Ciampino Airport instead. The service to the Italian capital will be maintained four times per week as last year but is down on the five weekly rotations initially planned by the airline for the 2024 summer season. Furthermore, the airline will end operations from Skopje to Venice Marco Polo Airport on March 30, shifting its two weekly services to Treviso instead.

Both shifts are to LCC airports, so hopefully this'll result in lower prices

It will go into profit. Which is fine.

Fiumicino looks like an old LCC airport.

You obviously haven't been there recently. The airport is completely renovated and modernised and is now one of the best airports in Europe.

FIUMICINO IS LCC? So funny. Might have mixed it up with CIA or just don't know what you are talking about.

Any particular reason for this change?

They would rather use those slots for more lucrative markets. It wont change anything for SKP passengers.

Last summer they operated to Fiumicino and Venice VCE. Unfortunate. Ciampino is actually a bit better because it is closer to the city but Treviso is not convenient.

Ciampino is closer to the city but FCO have train line to Termini which much more convenient.

Both Treviso and Ciampino are downgrade with more mediocer connections to the city

In my experience it's faster to reach the city from Ciampino but I guess it depends which part of Rome you need.

Wizz Air didnt operate to Venice last summer. Only during the winter season 22-23 which is the same case this winter and will be next winter. Treviso has been operating since 2012 and it is the first route that Wizz launched from Skopje, there havent been VCE flights last summer.

It wasn't faster in my case. I stucked in traffic trying to reach Ciampino and I almost miss my flight to Zagreb.
FCO is much better, and I'm glad FR switched Zagreb to FCO completely.

Both FCO and Ciampino have excellent bus to Termini.

Both are downgraded but ROM a bit more. I flew twice last year SKP-FCO but not because of visiting Rome, but rather for a transfer at FCO to Menorca and Teneriffe.
FCO is excellent for transfers to Spain, Canary Islands and other destinations covered by LCC. Now this opportunity will be gone because CIA has much less flights. This means less need for flying to ROM and less revenue for W6..Hopefully they did the math with the lower costs.

I also used FCO twice last year for transfer to Spain. Moving to CIA is not convenient at all. Moreover, flights to CIA are scheduled late, hence no time to transfer to FCO.

Wow, CIA is not that bad but Treviso.. no comment.
