SAS to launch Sarajevo service

SAS Scandinavian Airlines will launch a limited seasonal service between Copenhagen and Sarajevo this coming summer. The carrier will introduce a one weekly rotation between the two cities, each Wednesday, from July 3 until August 21. In total, the carrier will run eight return flights between the two capitals. Further flight details can be found here. Sarajevo becomes the only capital city in the former Yugoslavia to be served by SAS.

I'm pretty sure Norwegian won't be flying Copenhagen-Sarajevo (not even in the summer) in 2024, only Stockholm and Oslo, so there will be no direct competition from Norwegian on the Copenhagen-Sarajevo route.

Probably in the next summer season (2025) there will be many more flights. Good to see 4 destinations in Scandinavia.

SAS is such a strange airline. They don't even fly to Vienna and other much bigger/more important places...

I remember that they used to fly there a few years ago. It must be that the competition was too fierce that made them stop. After all, there are a lot of low-cost airlines dumping prices in Vienna these days. And SAS is a Star Alliance partner of Austrian Airlines anyway, so I don't think they are such a strange airline by not flying there.

Which other places were you thinking of that SAS doesn't fly to?

I like that the timetable isn't too early in the morning. When it departs at 08:30, you have time to connect from the rest of Scandinavia and even the US.

I had a look at what other flights SAS offers in the greater region and I found four more new routes during the summer period:

Copenhagen-Pristina (Wednesdays in July + Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays in August)
Stockholm-Pristina (Thursdays in June-July + Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays in August)
    Copenhagen-Tirana (Tuesdays in July-August)
    Stockholm-Tirana (Wednesdays in July-August)

Sure, I know that Albania is outside of the region covered in this blog, but I thought I would mention the two Tirana routes anyway since I found them. Additionally, SAS flies to the Croatian coastal airports (Pula, Zadar, Split, Dubrovnik) and Tivat.
