NEWS FLASH

Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport handled 96.440 passengers in March, representing an increase of 22.7% on the same month last year. However, the figure is still down 27.8% on the pre-pandemic 2019. During the first quarter, Ljubljana Airport welcomed 257.817 travellers, up 28% and down 24.8% on 2023 and 2019 respectively. As recently reported by EX-YU Aviation News, the airport is projected to continue to post double digit growth throughout the summer based on available capacity.

2018. Assuming about 200,000 transfer traffic, this makes about 10-15% of passenger traffic. That means the remaining traffic is still about 10% behind 2018.

Ljubljana performance is already ok. Consider that now they are more flights from nearby Trieste and Zagreb compared to precovid time.

And why should Ljubljana not be the one taking pax from Trieste?

Ryanair now has 14 destinations from Trieste, plus additional 4 that are seasonal. Can Ljubljana do the same or something similar?

My point. LJU is bleeding pax to Ryanair in Zagreb, Trieste, Treviso and even Vienna. What we need is more LCC leisure routes. Like Volotea or Easyjet to Spanish tourist towns

      @ 15:20

That’s actually true. ZAG and TRS are representing more competition, so yes, it’s okay.

@18:47 Even before the base of FR in ZAG, LJU struggled with recovery. I guess TSF and VCE were their option back then, but still i dont believe that LJU can set new records soon. Even if they do so, it will be because more people travel naturally every year from everywhere, but LJU is still stuck in 2019 which wasnt even their best year, 2018 was. The market is small and there is so much competition from everywhere, i think the current numbers are okay for LJU. Not to mention that Slovenia is much closer to Western Europe then the other Balkan countries, so people go to places with car, train, bus etc.

Croatia is also close to Western Europe. Zagreb Graz is 2 hours drive. Rijeka Milano is closer than Rijeka Dubrovnik etc.

I didn't understand just one thing. Off topic but related to airlines in LJU. How many and which destinations will White Airways serve and also will Trade Air continue to operate?

So even the first flight was full both ways. Average LF is 171 out of 180 seats. I hope they increase it to four and five times per week. W6 is literally ignoring the whole Balkan now because of their Italian bases.
