NEWS FLASH

The CEO of TUI Group Austria, Gottfried Math, has said the maintenance and engineering arm of the TUI Airlines Group will most likely open a maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) base at Maribor Edvard Rusjan Airport, according to the “Večer” daily. As previously reported, TUI has held several rounds of talks with the Slovenian government regarding the matter and toured Maribor Airport. While the Slovenian Ministry for Infrastructure said negotiations are still ongoing and no final decision has been made yet, Mr Math said that it will “most probably” be the case. However, Maribor is not expected to see any passenger flights by TUI. TUI Airlines Engineering provides maintenance, repair, and overhaul services to the airline group's combined fleet of over 150 aircraft.

Finaly some good news for Maribor. I think once the MRO is set up, charter traffic will follow suit sooner rather than later.

My relatives near MBX are already utilising charter flights from GRZ, so yes, why not from MBX? 🤷‍♂️

I’m wondering how they are going to pull this up with half if the plot on which airport is situated is in private ownership by Chinese citizens. Btw, I hope they pull this one up, as this is the only chance MBX has.

As far as I know TUI never had more than a small one weekly charter chain to AYT long, long time ago. And that is really the maximum one could expect - and it will not have anything to do with an MRO in MBX. Why would they offer anything from MBX when they serve southern Austria from GRZ anyways.
