NEWS FLASH

Italy’s national carrier ITA Airways and Croatia Airlines are expanding their codeshare partnership. The development comes just days after the European Commission approved the proposed acquisition of a 41% stake in ITA by Lufthansa, which will also result in the Italian carrier’s accession to Star Alliance. Under the expanded codeshare agreement, Croatia Airlines will place its designator code and flight numbers on its Italian counterpart’s services between Rome Fiumicino and Palermo, Bologna, Florence, and Naples. “This strengthened codeshare agreement between ITA Airways and Croatia Airlines will provide both business and leisure travellers with more choices and convenience when flying within the networks of both airlines. Italy will be more accessible to Croatia Airlines' customers, thanks to seamless connections from Rome to the listed domestic destinations. Similarly, ITA Airways will benefit from increased traffic flows between Italy and Croatia, catering to both leisure and business travellers”, ITA Airways said in a statement. ITA already codeshares on Croatia Airlines’ flights between Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, and Rome. The new codeshare flights are now available for booking through the airlines’ respective websites.

Why doesn't Croatia just offer Croatia Airlines to Lufthansa?
Especially with A220 order confirmed, it would be a good reason for LH to be interested

Why would LH do that? Croatia Airlines already obliges as if it is owned by Lufthansa.

Gain access to summer market (which they are lacking of), access to A220 - we all know that most of ZAG routes would be better of with CRJs and E195s

Again why would they take over a debt stricken loss making airline for which they would again have issues with European commission so they could gain access to a small market by European standards which is extremely seasonal? This way they get all the feeding traffic they need without losing a cent.

Maybe the purchase of AZ by LH will finally push OU to open non-stop flights to FCO after 35 years. After all, Mutti's new hub needs to be fed.

Knowing OU's incompetence, my money is more on ITA opening it especially now that it has multiple A221s which are perfect for these feeder flights

Not sure what to think about LH getting a stake in ITA. Like they're already dominating the market and ITA could've become successful on its own.

The only one who might regret is ITA if LH Group becomes too aggressive with their feeding strategy instead of more connectivity. I'm sure that this will affect ITA's growth in some way.

Croatia will be exceeding 13 million air passengers this year so it's so logical move by ITA airways to Codeshare w Croatia Airlines.

Ppl can't wait to fly ZAG-FCO via DBV, than transfer onto another flight to NAP, pay it hundreds of euros instead of taking 50eur Ryanair flight 1:15h to Naples! By the time OU lands in DBV, you are already in NAP!

I have took return flight on OU in June Zagreb-Split-Rome and Rome-Dubrovnik-Zagreb. The price for return flight was 150 EUR for adaults nd 95 EUR for a child. Ryanair was a bit cheaper but flight schedule on Ou was more convenient. Landing in split and Dubrovnik is not really an issue. You wait in an aicraft for about 30 minutes. Aircondition is on and crew is nice. People here exaggerate with no reason.

Completely usless codeshare unless this is a prelude to one of the two airlines introducing direct ZAG-FCO flights. Though knowing OU, my bet is actually on ITA introducing them.
OU's SPU and DBV flights also connect horribly onto ITA s network

What will happen with code share between Air Serbia and ITA Airways, can we expect to be cancelled due to new reallity?

Yes. LH group dislikes JU. Expect AZ to launch competing flights given high prices between Serbia and Italy.

Prices are not expensive at all. Of course, they are pricey in peak July and August but beyond that they are very reasonable. You also have Wizz Air operating LCC flights to Milan and Rome.
