NEWS FLASH

flyEgypt has cancelled plans to maintain regular weekly charter flights between Sharm el Sheikh and Ljubljana throughout the coming winter. Flight FT3119 was to be maintained each Tuesday, departing the Red Sea resort town at 05:00, arriving in Ljubljana at 08:00. The return service, operating as FT3120, was to take off from the Slovenian capital at 09:00, touching back down in Egypt at 14:00. The airline planned to deploy its 186-seat Boeing 737-800 aircraft between the two cities.

Do you really think it is up to Fraport and not the demand? Utilising that plane on some other route is obviously more profitable and with probably less empty seats.

@15:33 finnaly someone else who has some brains left and doesn’t always just say that fraport is responsible for everything (it is for certain thing but not for everyrhing) and that LH is the sole reason we are that f****d as we are. Thank you for not beeing one of those :D

I am @15:33 - I wrote several times the problems of LJU are also geographical. Too far from the most of the population etc, other airports being close or closer than LJU to centers of population and economy. People should realistically open the map and see that LJU is actually in Kranj. I don't really think LH even cares about EXYU region much, especially LJU.

@15:33, LJU is a 30-40 minute bus ride from Ljubljana Center. Trieste is 2+ hours, Zag, 3+ Hours, Vienna, 5-6 hours, VCE 4 hours. No one in Ljubljana or the surrounding area is closer to another airport.

Have you ever actually driven on any of these routes? From Ljubljana ZAG and TRS are less than 2 hours away and VCE is less than 3!

These are all bus times as I said. Driving to LJU does not take 40 minutes from the center. Feel free to update them all to self driving times if you wish

The reason is that the Slovenian market prefers Hurghada over Sharm el Sheikh. This was meant to be a charter flight for a tour operator and advanced booking was not good enough to start the flights

The reason is super simple - no demand.

Even we are always reading about "massive leisure demand" from LJU on each article here.

@19:20 there is absolutely no demand from LJU. There are only Croats who love to travel.

99% of all Hurghada flights from LJU are filled with Croats

Not 99%, but 30-40% are Croats

@Anon07:38 You got the point that LJU is considered as the airport for Ljubljana and the vincinity: "No one in Ljubljana or the surrounding area is closer to another airport". But many other pax from Slovenia are much far away from LJU than to the other airports. Just for a pax near LJU, the airport can not be interresting for any air company. Not only by distance in km, but mostly by connecting traffic modes. To ZAG the time is less and more convenient for eastern an southeastern part of the country. The western part pax need about 30 mins to TRS and about 1.5 hours to the VCE. All mentioned airports have better connectivities and prices including being more attractive to the companies. The ugly thruth.
