NEWS FLASH

Canadian carrier Air Transat will reduce frequencies on its seasonal Toronto – Zagreb service during the upcoming summer. Over the peak travel period, in July and August, the airline will operate three weekly rotations between the two cities instead of the initially planned four weekly. Last year, the carrier also maintained four weekly rotations. As a result, the airline will resume flights on the route on May 17, two weeks later than last year, operating once per week until June 5, when frequencies will be increased to two weekly. From June 17, the number of weekly services will grow to three and will be maintained until September 25, after which they will reduce to two weekly until the final rotation of the season on October 11.

Overall, Air Transat will boast 35.856 seats on the Croatian market this summer, down from 45.816 last year or a decrease of 21.7%. In 2024, the Canadian carrier handled 34.842 passengers on the Zagreb route with an average cabin load factor of 76%.

Itvis expected as last year their flights had a bad load factor, hist over 72%.. Another factor that is driving poor sale on tge route is the political and economy situation in Canada over 2 million people might lose jobs due to US and China terif. TS use to get substitute from CRO tourism when they started the route and thatvis gone now as well. They added 4th rotation due to YYZ TLV cancellation and spare aircraft but they might be able to restart flight to Israel soon .

What delays in aircraft delivery do. Even if the route is profitable, there's just more profitable ones elsewhere. Why fly at 70% LF to Croatia when you can fly with 90% to Trinidad for the same cost and a shorter flight trip

After reading about this reduction, one has to wonder if Air Transat and Belgrade Airport made any effort regarding service launch in recent years?

I wish it wasn't so. I wish they were increasing flights to ZAG.

Croatia and Slovenia have become way too expensive and overrated. Don't get me wrong, it's beautiful and the service has improved a lot over the last decade. However, charging almost 500 EUR for a hotel room per night is just not something I am not willing to pay. For that money, I might as well go to Hawaii and have a nice vacation there.

I am not sure where you are paying 500EURO for a room? Has it become more expensive? Yes, as has everywhere. I run an travel agency, and we pay 195EURO for a Top hotel in Zagreb. Less on the coast in great hotels. Croatia is still a bargain. 50 EUR per person for 3 course meals during the high season.
