NEWS FLASH

A lawsuit brought by Montenegro Airlines in liquidation against the government of Montenegro has been dismissed by the court. In February 2023, the bankrupt Montenegro Airlines sued the state for alleged failure to meet its obligations outlined in a special law designed to support the airline. This law had been implemented by the previous administration under Prime Minister Duško Marković. The former flag carrier was seeking 100.241.505 euros from the state. The court has found the request to be unfounded and has ordered the company, which is in liquidation, to compensate the state for litigation costs amounting to 20.250 euros. On December 27, 2019, the Parliament of Montenegro adopted a lex specialis, which recognised Montenegro Airlines as a company of special importance, granting additional state support of 155 million euros over the next six years to avoid bankruptcy and ensure its future development. Montenegro Airlines declared bankruptcy in December 2020.
