Turkish Airlines is downgrading its Istanbul - Dubrovnik flights to seasonal operations. Summer flights will end for the year on October 25 and resume on March 29, 2026. In 2024, Turkish Airlines handled 51.398 passengers on its Dubrovnik flights. While its average cabin load factor during the second and third summer quarters stood at a high 89.2%, its average cabin occupancy during the winter first and fourth quarters amounted to 48.7% and 71% respectively. Turkish Airlines has increased frequencies on its services to the Croatian coastal city over the 2025 summer season.
These flights never made sense, who goes there in winter
ReplyDeleteSome airlines already have realized that the Winter season should be reduced to DEC to FEB (even excluding Xmas period) only. November is still ok to go and March in the Northern Mediterranean area is just beautiful, with all the flowers blooming and temps of 15 to 20 C. A pity that TK is now discontinuing the service all winter timetable period.

DeleteIt would make most sense to start flights just before Easter and finish them just after New Year's Day.
What does Dubrovnik offer in November that Antalya, Athens, Catania, Venice or Nice don't?
DeleteDubrovnik doesn't try to attract winter tourism and that is why they have such small numbers outside the summer.
A new destination. If you have been to AYT ATH CTA VCE or NCE, you might look for a new destination. With the temperatures going up, there are more and more tourists looking for travels outside the peak season. Me personally I dont need 30 C. I am happy in NCE VLC DBV or VCE with temperatures at 15-25 C. So many things you can do, if you are an interested person. DBV has a lot of history to offer, but also good food, wine tasting, great architecture, hiking or just a good coffee while the sun is smiling on your face. Me, you see travelling from 01MAR to 15MAY and from 15SEP to 15NOV and I travel mostly to the mediterrenean sea area. I was in VCE in March and we had 22 C, yesterday I returned from the Cinque Terre and we already had 25 C and it was enough crowded. I dont want to imagine, how it is there in July or August.

According to TK numbers above, those who think like you are producing 48% LF. Those who prefer summer generate 89% LF. Doesn't take much to realize who won and why is TK cancelling winter ops. It's not about repeating facts about history, food and architecture, it is about accepting reality.
DeleteVisiting Dalmatia during spring and autumn is a bit risky. I've been hit with beautiful 25° sunny weather only to be met with apocalyptic winds and rain the next day
DeleteIn my opinion, the summer and winter flight schedules are too static and inflexible. Certain airlines have recognized this and have extended their summer flight schedules until week 3 or 4 in November and are already starting to serve destinations again at the beginning of March. In order to mitigate the negative effects of mass tourism and to be able to cope with rising tourist numbers in the future, airlines will have no choice but to make their flight schedules more flexible. However, tourism will always be somewhat seasonal for climatic reasons. In the Alpine regions, many hotels are closed from April to mid-June or from the end of October to mid-December. This is just about right, as it allows staff to take a break and use the days off, they were unable to take during the high season.

DeleteCroatian seaside is very seasonal. I was there in January for work and the city is empty. Airport almost no flights etc.

ReplyDeleteCroatian tourist workers rest between September and June.
ReplyDeleteNot sure in which village you live, but they don't rest that long.
