NEWS FLASH

Air Serbia will increase operations between Belgrade and Thessaloniki this coming winter season, which begins on October 26 and runs until March 28. The airline plans to run ten weekly flights between the two cities, up from six to seven weekly services during the 2024/25 season. The number of winter flights also surpasses its existing summer frequencies of eight to nine weekly services. Over the winter, the carrier will operate two daily rotations on the route on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays. Air Serbia will utilise a mix of ATR72, Embraer E190 and E195 aircraft between the two cities over the winter. Changes remain possible.

Hmm odd one; maybe an agency is booking most of the seats?

There's a quite a bit of VFR traffic during winter as well, as well as tourists (if the price is right). It's a healthy mix.

They must be thinking about Heraklion in winter too, not with this frequency obviously but Crete is quite nice winter destination. And there would be some transfers, at least from the region, Knosos is popular site and other venues too, which are not so pleasant visiting in summer.

I took the time to list all the destinations where the passengers are mainly tourists, or at least half, since some of them also involve transfers. What do you think? More or less, I believe this is the situation. Feel free to add anything.

    Purely tourist destinations:
Barcelona, Lisbon, Malaga, Porto, Alghero, Chania, Corfu, Dubrovnik, Heraklion, Izmir, Mykonos, Mallorca, Pula, Split, Rhodes, Rijeka, Zadar.

Destinations that also involve transfers and possibly diaspora:
Bari, Naples, Catania, Florence, Malta, Thessaloniki, Palermo.

How is Malta doing? Is there enough diaspora for two airlines? Imo SKG have and tourists.

Serbian diaspora in Malta is downsizing lately in favor of Nepal, India and Philipino gastos. IDK numbers but I have seen in personal last couple of years. On the other hand it looks like to me leisure traffic BEG/INI-MLA is growing. Malta is great in October even November. Serbs took a long time to realize there are seas in other countries as well, not only in Greece.

Malta is a very popular tourist destination because Valetta is stunning. And especially from September onwards hotels are dirt cheap compared to other countries in Europe.

I do and I like it. Wonderful sandy beaches at north, modest temperatures in October even in November and not so crowdy. And not overpriced.

As I said before, there are other seas in the world not only Greece and Turkey and people in Serbia are excited to explore them. Booking and other platforms helps to avoid pricy tourist agencies. That's why JU upgraded many leisure destinations to a scheduled flights.

In the past year, I’ve flown with JU to Lisbon, Malaga, and Porto, and on all these routes there was a noticeable number of connecting passengers. It was particularly amusing to see how many travelers were clearly connecting from Turkey - easily recognizable by their freshly transplanted hairlines.
