NEWS FLASH

Eurowings will temporarily suspend one of its two routes to Sarajevo next January. The airline plans to pause flights between Stuttgart and the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina from January 17, with the service scheduled to resume on February 19, although further changes remain possible. The low cost carrier had initially planned to operate the route twice per week, mirroring last winter’s schedule. Eurowings’ other service to Sarajevo, from Cologne, will continue throughout the winter season. However, frequencies will be reduced from the planned three weekly flights to two weekly in December 2025 and January 2026.

These one month seasonal suspension are seemingly becoming more and more common in the aviation industry.

Only on routes that are just about profitable like this one.

It is not "just about profitable" but rather seasonal due to being primarily aimed at VFR and tourist traffic.

Literally the definition of just about profitable.

      Literally not.
You are unable to distinguish between the profit margins a seasonal route has with the demand for this during winter.
Germanwings and all other airlines have widely profitable SEASONAL routes. They also have barely profitable year round routes.

Better to suspend it for a month than to cancel it for the season... or more.

What's horrible about it, it's the best performing transfer route from BiH after Frankfurt.

Also Eurowings will introduce 3 more destinations next year from SJJ.

Eurowings are an unsuccessful low cost Airline just like Wizz. Lufthansa should scrap it and concentrate on the Lufthansa Mainline brand.
