NEWS FLASH

Air Serbia will downgrade its service between Belgrade and Lyon from year-round to seasonal operations. The carrier will halt flights between the two cities on October 24. A limited two weekly service will be restored over the holiday period, from December 15 until January 12, after which operations will be suspended again until March 30, when they are scheduled to resume. The development comes after the Serbian carrier introduced flights to Geneva this summer, located some 150 kilometres east of Lyon, which will continue over winter. As a result, this upcoming winter season, Air Serbia will maintain flights to two destinations in France, Paris Charles de Gaulle and Nice, maintaining a total of eighteen weekly rotations. Lyon services are maintained with the Embraer E195 aircraft.

    Every year same story. 😠
They announced an ambitious winter schedule (by JU standards ofc) and then start butchering it.
And the E-jets were supposed to solve that problem with their rightsized capacity? 🤷‍♂️

Even E195 cannot sustain winter operations on certain routes. JU should've opted for wet lease of couple E170/E175s and operate Lyon, Gothenburg, Hannover, Nuremberg, Ankara, Izmir year round.

Unfortunately ATR72 can jump in on shorter destinations only, if it was to fly BEG-LYS it would take approx. 3 hours

Why not? I used that line and know that there is some demand, even for mre than 2x, just the demand is obviously smaler than the other lines that took available capacity.

It’s probably not worth it to add extra type for few thin routes.

It is not an extra type, Jesus, it`s the same aircraft! But flying 70-seater jets doesn`t pay off. I agree they should operate 1-2 of them, as to fly rotations that one cannot sell well but still needs to fly in order to ramain competitive, but in this case, well, that calls for an entire winter season of non-economical flights to the destination, and if it does not provide much transfer pax improving yields elsewhere, it`s a no-no.

A330 YU-ARB left for China but turned around over Kazakhstan and is landing back at Belgrade. Why?

Bad weather. I think their CAN operations are affected by the typhoon in HKG. The airport will be closed for at least 36 hours. Ouch.

Too bad Lyon is discontinued for the winter season, but still I'll be happy if it remains as a seasonal destination. The city is very nice.

So JU killed JU in LYS.
They were obsessed with GVA and easyJet so now they killed their own LYS flights. A friend of mine flew to GVA with easyJet some 10 days ago and the A320 was 90% full. I guess JU didn't affect them much. They seem to be thriving.

EasyJet is thriving on the route? Based on what? A friend of a friend told you one flight had a LF of 90%

      Give me a break

Based on not cutting a single flight to GVA. Based on JU killing LYS. So far it's JU that is retreating from this area. It was nice while this dream lasted. Now it's time to wake up and smell the coffee.

I fly frequently (more than five times per year) on the GVA-BEG line. Before JU stepped in, EasyJet prices were double or more compared to now. So, JU did hurt them, in terms of reducing their profits, and brought benefits for the travellers.

This is a great example for those who keep repeating "We need more LCCs to lower the prices" when in fact any competition helps lower the price.

I found it a little worrying that Air Serbia is cutting so many routes or frequencies this upcoming winter.
Looks to me that they're struggling on the commercial side to make their hub viable over the whole year.
