Croatia is set to handle four long-haul transcontinental services this coming summer, with Air Transat scheduling a one-off flight from Montreal.
The Canadian carrier plans to operate the same number of flights between Toronto and Zagreb as last year. Services will resume on May 9 with one weekly frequency, increasing to three weekly rotations during June, July, August and most of September, before tapering to two and then one weekly service, concluding on October 10. In total, Air Transat will operate 53 flights in each direction on the route.
In addition, the airline has scheduled a one-off service between Montreal and Zagreb, departing on June 16, with the return flight planned for June 26. While the service is not available for booking, it has been loaded into the Global Distribution System as flights TS212/213 and will be operated by an Airbus A330-200.
United will headline Croatia’s long-haul growth this year. The carrier is set to inaugurate seasonal flights between Newark and Split on April 30, operating three times per week with its premium-heavy 167-seat Boeing 767-300ER aircraft. A total of 56 flights are scheduled in each direction, with the service concluding on September 6.
In addition, United will resume its seasonal Newark - Dubrovnik route on April 30. The service will operate daily throughout May, June, July, August and most of September, before being reduced to four weekly rotations in October, concluding on October 23. Overall, the airline will maintain the same level of capacity as last summer, operating 164 departures in each direction on the route.
Finally, South Korea’s T’Way Air, which will rebrand to Trinity Airways during the second half of the year, plans to restore seasonal operations between Seoul and Zagreb this summer. The carrier is yet to put tickets on sale, however, in a statement to EX-YU Aviation News, the airline said, “At the moment, we are planning to resume the service this year, however, the sales schedule has not yet been finalised and is subject to change”.

Nice
ReplyDeleteAny idea what the Montreal flight might be for?
ReplyDeleteFIFA World Cup?
DeleteMakes sense.
DeleteLiterally makes no sense
DeleteIt is not for World Cup. There are no matches in Montreal at all.
DeleteSpeaking of World Cup, I wonder if there will be any charter from Croatia for fans. Obviously Air Transat does not plan to carry any.
DeleteWas expecting a bit more from Transat to be honest. They have been flying the same number of flights for years. With the World Cup in Canada this year and Croatia even playing a game in Toronto, I was expecting some extra flights.
ReplyDeleteHope we see Air Canada come nxt year
DeleteFingers crossed.
DeleteTransat really could do more. Zagreb was able to sustain two airlines on Toronto route before covid. So there is a sufficient market size for them to expand.
DeleteBut why should they if there is absolutely no pressure for them to do so hahahah
DeleteShould have a lot more long hauls considering tourism demand.
ReplyDeleteAgree. Croatia can do much more than 3 summer routes.
Delete*4
DeleteI wish we had yearround service instead of just seasonal. Zagreb deserves better connectivity as a growing tourist and business destination
DeleteCome on when are we going to see ZAG-NYC??
ReplyDeleteAgree. Zagreb really needs a second long haul carrier to avoid being completely dependent on Air Transat for North America.
DeleteProbably not in the near future
Deleteas long as we have US flights to SPU, you dont need it in Zag!
DeleteWhy not?
DeleteCause then they will suspend SPU and we wont have it. You can have Canadians, leave US to us on coast
DeleteUnfortunately all summer seasonal. Which of these long haul routes could be sustained year round?
ReplyDeleteAs shown by JU's transatlantic flights during winter the demand falls off a lot and as an airline you just take the losses waiting for summer.
DeleteWhile waiting for summer, airline adjusts lots of things for winter schedule (lower frequency, adjust waves for outbound flights for better connections, lower the price, adjust marketing activities etc ) and that way minimize effects of lower demand. When they do properly their homework, praying time starts and with stars also aligned summer season comes back and things start improving (hopefully). Next year same thing again....simple, right?
Delete@12:45 not really I'm afraid.
DeleteSo United is the only one growing. But I'm happy to see T'way is coming back and perhaps in 2026 or 27 they increase frequencies.
ReplyDeleteAs far as I can see, Tway is ready to pull off the plug
DeleteHow did you come to that conclusion?
DeleteBecause they didn't put tickets on sale, only 3 months before starting the route. Nije dobro
DeleteBravo Hrvatska!
ReplyDeleteNewark–Split is a smart move.
ReplyDeleteNewark Split could easily outperform Newark–Dubrovnik in peak summer. Split has a much broader catchment area.
DeleteIt does especially with Zadar, Sibenik and the islands however Dubrovnik is seen as a top destination while Split is still developing
DeleteDespite the larger catchment, Dubrovnik is much more internationally known than Split. Especially in the US.
DeleteSeasonal, seasonal, seasonal. Wake me up when even one of these routes goes year-round.
ReplyDeleteSeasonal long-haul works for Croatia’s tourism model.
DeleteIt’s not the model, it’s the seasons.
DeleteUnited clearly sees Croatia as a premium leisure market
ReplyDelete+1
DeleteThat 767-400 is a rare bird these days
DeleteThe 767-400 was always a rare bird since only two airlines operated it.
DeleteLOL! “Premium” market with 3 seasonal long haul routes… Zama disciples should check how many routes have Italy, Greece, Spain, Portugal, Turkey, France and try to understand how delusional they are
DeleteWell I don't see any airport in our region with something similar plus Croatia is a newly emerged market compared to Nice, Rome, Athens or Geneva
DeleteCroatia looks good this summer but it’s still heavily reliant on the US and Canada. No China, no Japan, no Singapore, no Africa. All of these could work.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Africa could work by bringing African tourists to the coast!
DeleteIt hasn't been done in any other European country but it will be done in Dalmatia! 🤪
Egypt is also in Africa and I think that Zagreb-Cairo could work. Also connectivity with Morocco is missing. Although, both are not long-haul.
DeleteScoot from Singapore could work. Air Asia X was meant to operate charters from Bangkok to Zagreb in 2020.
DeleteWho were the Air Asia flights meant for?
DeleteThai tourists I guess
DeleteConnections from Australia. The vast majority of Thailand's population can not afford a European vacation.
DeleteUnbelievable there are no flights to China. Marseille has them, Barcelona has them, why not Dubrovnik?
ReplyDeleteYou do realize that Barcelona and Marseille are far bigger cities than Dubrovnik?
DeleteI'm sure seasonal flights could work.
Delete@09:30 You do realise that the metropolitan area of Barcelona is quite a bit larger than the whole of Croatia in population terms? And that its a very very multicultural city, so too is Marseille and therefore totally poor comparisons to make with Dubrovnik.
DeleteBecause Croatia is touristal liliputan comparing to the rest of European Mediterranean
Deletehahah the best comparison i've seen so far :D
DeleteTime for Air Transat to start Montreal-Zagreb.
ReplyDeletetbh t'way sounds better than Trinity
ReplyDeleteNo it doesn't.
DeleteNeither sound very catchy
DeleteKoreans are very religious.
DeleteStill down on 2019 when there was Korean, American, Air Canada.
ReplyDeleteAir Transat scheduled YYZ-SPU and even put tickets on sale in 2019 and then cancelled it for operational reasons.
DeleteTime for Pragusa in 2026 :D
ReplyDeleteHave they issued a new launch date? :D
DeleteThey're planning a collaboration with Global Airlines :P
DeleteSo which long haul route and airline do we think will launch next from Croatia?
ReplyDeleteMy guess is American comes back to DBV.
DeleteOr Delta
DeleteOne of the US big 3 for sure.
DeleteIt’s a little late for that. If didn’t happen so far, chances are minimal now, unfortunately. American and Canadian economies are in a free fall, with no bright on a horizon. As soon as ZAG fanboys realize that, better for them
DeleteI wouldn't exactly say they are in free fall especially taking into account that the US had the highest GDP growth of any developed country in 2025.
Delete13:07 what are you talking about? Compared to most EU economies the US is doing great. And now when all the free Venezuelan oil starts flowing to the US the things will look even better.
DeleteYup, EU economies are also in a free fall. Western fairytales comes to an end slowly. In US, ordinary people could not catch up even with two jobs. Middle class is non existent any more, they are in a tents on a streets. And they should be major Croatian tourists. Rich ones are getting even richer, but they have more preferred places to visit.
DeleteCheck your math, the number of US tourists in Croatia is increasing.
DeletePIR will be jotting down the extensive list of destinations that OU "could" be serving in his alternative timeline over their morning coffee.
ReplyDeleteNo, PIR will tell you to get a life and start commenting poor Croatian long-haul connections, which is what almost all posters today agree with, instead of him/me personally. When I have my coffee and what I do over my coffee, morning or evening, is absolutely not concern of yours. Therefore, get a life!
DeleteI agree with your observations on poor long-haul connectivity. Just not on the fantasy land views of OU's potential. No need to be offensive.
DeleteLet's open OU flight between Rio and Zagreb, year round, 2pw with 787-9!
DeleteI suggest 2x daily because of the big diaspora there. Also 3x daily to Cleveland please.
DeleteI just don't understand why should someone, if not personally involved and/or motivated to keep current disastrous OU status, LIE about destinations and/or frequencies I numerous times suggested OU should start with, and those are New York, Chicago, Delhi and Bangkok, with 2-3 weekly frequencies, on 2 aircraft, with numerous code shares on both sides, much wider regional network, proper waves, and above all, competent management. Instead of all of the above, we get 3 daily Cleveland, which I never ever mentioned, like something that's supposed to be funny or whatever, and actually is mean, pathetic, fuj and bljak!
DeleteI think because OU is so very bad at even doing the small or low hanging fruit well that talk of long-haul just sounds like a dreamland. I don't think anyone means to be mean. Rather we all know we need far better politics in HR to drive change in infrastructure and transport.
Delete@16.59
DeleteFully agree. Wrote more than dozen times about Mafia ruling Croatia, country, and Ivan Mišetić, ruling Croatia, airlines, through corrupt and/or blackmailed politicians. Never, never, never claimed anything in OU can be done with this politics, politicians, mafiosos and "managers". So we absolutely agree here. And yes, people who protect, advocate, guard OU as it is, and insist on status quo, are those who are mean, pathetic, fuj and bljak.
So happy about SPU, but hopefully long houl route will to effect/ limited other flights/ routes, as there is already missing parking slots
ReplyDeleteI'm happy for SPU too but does anyone get the impression the airport itself is not very happy? They have not issued a single statement about this route. They have not posted anything on their website about this route. Not a single official from the airport has uttered a word about this route to the media. You would think they would be more excited about their first long haul service ever.
DeleteThey are probably unhappy with the lost revenue. Airport is congested in summer and now one plane is taking up space for a protracted period of time.
DeleteAnd to add the above comment, this plane has very low capacity. So it is taking up space yet it has less passengers than a Wizz Air A321.
Delete^ It has less passengers than any standard A320 nowadays!
DeleteI think you are reading too much into that. They are probably just really inefficient in their marketing department.
DeleteSeat selection alone costs more in that 767 than an average Wizz passengers entire ticket.
DeleteThe airport gets nothing from seat selection. But it gets from passengers sitting in the terminal, in the cafes, browsing through shops and paying the passenger tax (the more passengers the more tax it gets). The majority of United's passengers will be sitting in the business lounge costing the airport.
Delete@14:00 yeah whatever
Delete@14.05 +1
DeleteTway fights are a bit late aren't they?
ReplyDeleteYes. Last year they were also late. I believe they started sales in January. But I guess, since these flights are almost exclusively for Korean tourists they can afford to put it on sale late. I assume packages are sold in advance that use these flights.
DeleteWhat I don't get is that this route is the only one which they put on sale late. All their other European routes are continuously on sale.
DeleteOdd
DeleteSurely a380 Emirates 5th freedom flights would work nicely for Zagreb like they do for Athens from NYC
ReplyDeleteSure, because ZAG and ATH are similar markets...
DeleteSMFH.
ATH had 32 mil pax in 2024
DeleteOU really needs to start thinking long haul im sure with the right strategy they could make a couple year round routes to North America work possibly even Asia…they will not be able to survive in the current Market with their Current strategy
ReplyDeleteThey can't organise anything, let alone long-haul. Unless Croatia sees a huge change in politics this will remain the case for a while more.
DeleteWell done Croatia but there is potential for more.
ReplyDeleteCorrect. But when you tell that to Buzin uhljebs they immediately start spitting on you
Delete
