NEWS FLASH

Mostar Airport has unveiled plans to expand its terminal building in response to the steady rise in passenger numbers. The project includes a larger and more functional terminal space that will improve passenger flow and reduce congestion during peak travel periods, as well as the introduction of new retail outlets, souvenir shops and additional food and beverage facilities. Upgrading the airport’s infrastructure is seen as a key prerequisite for attracting new airlines and launching additional routes. Mostar Airport said work on the project is expected to begin this year and has released visualisations showing the planned appearance of the upgraded terminal once the expansion is completed.

Only the "analyst" believes that Međugorje dominates the tourism in Mostar, substantially more people go for the city itself. We saw how the elderly religious tours failed last year.

I think that the Međugorje stuff (bizarre as it is) did solidly drive aviation for a while in the 2000s, but nowadays the airport is used more more as a gateway to trips around BiH and as very useful jumping off point for the wider region. With improved road access which is ongoing, Mostar is actually a really nicely located city.

20:06 Many of them were used by people from B&H visiting Italy but the sheer amount of routes would be hard to sustain even in bigger airports

Very nice, but I hope that routes towards hubs like FRA, MUC or WAW are high on the priority list as well.

Svako poboljsanje uslova aerodroma i dogradnja i renoviranje terminala raduje svakog coveka. Koji postuje civilno vazduhoplovstvo. Dali su turisticki letovi ili poklonicka putovanja, Mostar je zasluzan i dostojan za avio saobracaj. To je dovoljno coveku. Svakom.
    Pozdrav iz jesenjeg Sidneja.

There is a growt potentian. However, local authorities are the biggest show stoppers. They think that if they can subsidize flights with citizen's money, they will also increase the number of passangers and show them being successful. Year-around conditions for tourists to stay, not just arrive for a day or two, need to be created. They have not development strategy because they only employee compliant people, stifle and prevent creativity. They are corrupt. The major, although veing phisican/doctor, is said to be on cocain. So do not put major at pedestal, he is just doing what some people tell him. So do not expect great progress while these people are in power. On the other hand, there is talk of transferring the airport under concesion, and will probably try to spruce up the situation a bit. That does not work.
