NEWS FLASH
Eurowings has resumed flights between Berlin and Sarajevo over the weekend following a hiatus of more than six years. The low-cost carrier will maintain a weekly rotation between the two capitals, increasing to two weekly in July and August, before reverting to a single weekly service for the remainder of the season. The airline previously operated the route in 2013 and 2014 under the Germanwings brand, and again in 2019, with services ending in January 2020. The route had been scheduled to resume in March that year but was cancelled due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
Berlin now joins Eurowings’ year-round services from Cologne and Stuttgart to Sarajevo. “The introduction of direct flights from Berlin confirms that investments in air connectivity are delivering tangible results, with the German market holding particular importance due to strong tourist interest, as well as the close ties between the diaspora and Bosnia and Herzegovina”, Sarajevo Airport’s Acting CEO, Dino Selimović, said.
The route is one of several secured through an incentive programme supported by the airport, local authorities and the tourism office. At the height of the summer season, the Lufthansa Group will operate up to 46 weekly flights from Sarajevo.

Hope this can be upgraded to year round eventually.
ReplyDeleteThey also promised Hamburg and Hannover but nothing so far...
ReplyDeleteDüsseldorf too. I'd say that Hannover and Düsseldorf are a bit overkill (unless Düsseldorf comes as a replacement for Cologne/Bonn), but Hamburg is just as must-have as Berlin, Stuttgart and a destination in NRW.
DeleteOnce weekly flight won't be enough to sustain this route. It will be gone by the spring!
ReplyDeleteReturn ticket 400 euro in Aug with incentive from the Sarajevo airport. Ridiculous!!!
ReplyDeleteJust as calling Eurowings to be "The low-cost carrier"
DeleteVery good for Sarajevo to build up the presence of an airliner with a clear strategy and attractive service.
ReplyDeleteOne weekly flight is not enough for a route to be qualified as demanding and in need. Thats why it couldn't be year round
