Air Montenegro expects to report a loss of around four million euros for the first half of 2026, although the final figure has yet to be confirmed as the airline is still in the process of finalising all outstanding invoices. Air Montenegro’s CEO, Vukadin Stojanović, noted that the airline incurred 2.5 million euros in unforeseen costs due to the sharp increase in fuel prices, with the price per tonne rising from 733 euros in February to 1.575 euros by the end of March. "The price remains above 1.300 euros per tonne, although we cannot specify the exact amount we are currently paying, as fuel costs vary from airport to airport. At some locations prices are adjusted weekly, while at others they change on a monthly basis", Mr Stojanović explained.
The CEO also pointed out that competition at Montenegro's airports is stronger than ever, particularly following Wizz Air's recent base opening in Podgorica. In addition, he said the airline's revenues have been affected by the suspension of flights to Azerbaijan and Armenia this year after the introduction of visa requirements, whereas those routes operated last year. The move has reduced Air Montenegro's revenues by a million euros. Chairman Predrag Dragaš added that the impact is expected to worsen, as Montenegro plans to introduce visas for Turkish citizens by the end of the year, which is also expected to have a negative effect on the airline's revenues.

ReplyDeleteSo let's say they are losing 0.75 mio monthly (Wizz base really started last month), and they have 12mio in the bank, with " impact is expected to worsen", so let's say especially in the winter they'll be losing 1mio monthly.
ReplyDeleteWith new E290 aircraft on lease, it will take about 2-4mio in security and upfront costs... leaving them with an optimistic 10mio in the bank.
They will run out of money in the bank at around March?
I think even before. It's not just Turks who are going to be impacted but the Russians as well. I don't think Montenegro as a whole realizes what this will mean for them and for the economy.

DeleteHow is it fine since I don't see how they will fix it. It's not like the EU will compensate them for the loss just like it didn't compensate European companies after they lost access to Russian gas.

ReplyDeleteAn airline with loses makes sense it a post-socialist system where the airport maintains 3x the workers so people can have jobs. Sometimes you loose money so workers can eat. A lack of education in economics and likely comments by someone younger than 30. Are you trying to identify corruption or have cleaning ladies loose their job

DeleteDoes the government of Montenegro do full financial outcome estimate when making decisions (like imposing visa regime on these two countries, and how that will affect Air Montenegro and other state operated units), and ensure to budget the anticipated loss, which is not a space science process?
ReplyDeleteOf course they will have lost because as a country they did not protect their national carrier they brough Wizz air with 15 seasonal routes enough to destroy their flag carrier. So for them obviously is more importnant Wizz air than their national airline to grow and be strong. What a shame for the country. Plus they are paying to Wizz air to serve them 15 seasonal routes and not support their own airline

DeleteYou dont get my conclusion, with Wizz air present there, their airline will not be strong enough and this is clear example that for just few months Wizz air destroys them. For 1 to 2 years from now Air montenegro will not exist anymore. They should not give that much power to Wizz air there when they have national carrier that needs to be number 1 after everything else. That is small market and cannot sustain both airlines , one will need to dissapear
