Iberia will reduce frequencies on its seasonal Madrid - Zagreb service in September and end operations for the year earlier than originally planned. As part of a network update issued last week, the airline has revised its schedule to operate between four and six weekly flights for most of September, down from the initially planned four to nine weekly rotations. The carrier will also conclude services on October 11, almost two weeks ahead of the originally scheduled October 24 end date. Iberia faces direct competition from Croatia Airlines on the route.

DeleteYes you obviously missed the news that Lufthansa will be reducing ZAG-FRA this winter to just daily Air Dolomiti E95. Why? Well because locals are flying with OU

DeleteIberia only has itself to blame. The flight timings are awful. Friday and Saturday arrivals in Madrid do not connect onto a single flight onward to anywhere. If they arrived just one hour earlier, they could get transfer traffic to five cities in Latin America.
DeleteLH is not decreasing ZAG because locals prefer OU, it's because it's better for LH to get cheap feed from OU than bother with operating those flights themselves.

ReplyDeleteIberia cancelled my flight in October. I wanted to switch to Croatia Airlines and fly with them instead, but their ticket prices are absurd. They want €875 for a return flight… Let me just say that I paid €812 for a long‑haul flight from Ljubljana to Kuala Lampur. I’m honestly shocked at how insanely high the price is.

DeleteYou made a massive mistake to rebook yourself. You should have insisted that Iberia rebooks you. They would have put you on the Croatia Airlines flight if timings allowed for your connection. And at no extra cost. They also could have rebooked you onto a British Airways flight via Heathrow from Zagreb.

I didn’t get that option. It was either rebooking to another day flying with Iberia ( before October 11) or getting a cash refund.
Very few airlines will rebook you to other carriers if your impacted flight is more than two weeks away. Theoretically they should do it according to EU261 regulations, but in practice almost no one does.
DeleteLufthansa always rebooks me to any available flights and even to other airlines ourside of their alliance. I have been rebooked on to British Airways, Condor, Turkish, South African etc. That is one thing i like about LH (although not many other than that)

One Y class seat left, the price is the price. OU has done very well to fill the plane. Any other airline would charge similar, I don't understand the problem.
