The milestone has been driven by Wizz Air's two-aircraft base in the city, which opened in March, with the low cost carrier serving 24 destinations from the Montenegrin capital this summer.
On June 30, the airport registered 91 arriving and departing flights, overtaking its previous record of 85 set on June 16. June was also Podgorica Airport’s busiest month on record, during which it handled 281.524 passengers, representing an increase of 44.7% on the previous year. During the first half of 2026, Podgorica Airport welcomed 617.589 travellers through its doors, up 9.7% on last year, or an additional 139.677 customers.

Unbelievable how much air travel business potential is given away to foreign hands
ReplyDeleteBut the 281K are quite impressive for a single month
What do you expect? Its a country smaller than many cities in Europe.
DeleteBasically we can see from the numbers that without the Wizz base they would be in negative territory
ReplyDeleteWell that is why Wizz was sibsidized to open its base.
DeleteI am very surprised that Austrian is ahead Air Serbia
ReplyDeleteLarger aircraft
DeleteWhats more fun is to see Air Astana on a top 10 for any European airport.
DeleteThe airport is completely unprepared for this growth and the infrastructure can't cope.
ReplyDeleteInterestingly i passed through last week on the 10:30 to Gatwick and passing security and immigration took seconds. I realise at other times its like hell on earth.
DeleteOne observation is the madly low prices on these new routes. I paid €90 two days in advance. I can also see flights to Beauvais tomorrow for €24.99 and for the rest of the month. Most other destinations are dirt cheap last minute too. Interesting my flight was almost totally full despite the low price.
Seems to me that the flight would be almost full because of the low price, not despite it.
DeleteWell given dynamic pricing prices would usually be higher than 90euros for a flight with only a few seats left on it. They are really coming in hard with Podgorica. Interesting and great for travellers. How long term sustainable i dont know.
DeleteGood performance now , but with 15 seasonal routes means winter will be not that good , too much seasonal routes for an low cost carrier which they should actually be active through all year not only in summer months
ReplyDeletedo you reckon, its the smallest exyu market by far
Deletewhat do you really expect?
@14:48 Have you been to Rzeszów in December?..Didn't think so either. The routes that (might) work year round are ok given the size of the market outside summer time.
Deleteits not like anybody fron MNE goes to Rzesow at any time of the year. this route is solelly for polish holidaymakers...
DeleteHence being seasonal
DeleteAnd also for Ukrainian holidaymakers because RZE is close to the Ukrainian border. I know someone who was on this flight some days ago and the person said that about 70-80% of the passengers were Ukrainians.
DeleteOh that is interesting. Makes sense. From September Russians will need visas to Montenegro so we can expect a large reduction next summer. Many Russians arrive via Istanbul or Belgrade as things stand. The country is getting more and more international which is great. Rental cars from Croatia and Albania are all over the country as people combine the region too which is really nice to see.
